Hopefully the British weather will be a bit better by the time you visit in June Trev. It's a shame that you can't both come over together but understandable why not. We'll miss your input on the forum during that time but you never know you might just access us from the wilds of Carnforth! You can share your local photos with us when you get back too. That Sunday lunch sounds a bit like the pub and carvey type thing we have over here - £3.50 per person plus drinks, apart from Sundays which are dearer. You get to choose from beef, turkey or gammon or any combination of the three and then help yourself to veg (I usually go for the cauliflower cheese.)

Sort of update from Languedoc ................. We escaped the storms in the 3rd week of January. They arrived from the West (max wind speed 194 km/h) but fizzled out about 30 km from here. Then we took a break in Malta. It is not that far and we can fly Ryanair Girona - Malta. Average weather in Malta - some rain, but nice afternoons up to 18C. When we got back, we found that our local town had suffered from heavy rainfall in the mountains and many businesses had flooded to about 1m (metre, not mile !). In September 2002, these businesses were flooded to a depth of 4.5m - about half way up the walls on the first floor. Not sure how long this will last, but there are some photos from last week here : www.midilibre.com/DIAP_242.php5And this gives a flavour from 2002, when 39 people died : and, normally : Current weather calm with cloudy intervals about 15C. Hi all. I haven't added anything to my 'living in Cyprus' thread for a while, so I will update it a little now. As you know I am coming to the UK in June, hoping for better weather than Peter's pictures show. I thought that it was best to obtain holiday insurance, just in case. What I never thought about was the cost, but of course I have to declare my heart attack. One company wanted £128 for the 12 days, which to me is a lot of money. I eventually went with '24dr travel'. They have covered me for everything for a little under £70. I have also hired a car for what runs into 13 days at a cost of £183. My wife has hired a car for her trip as well. What we have both found is that there is an £600 'excess' to pay should your car be damaged, even by some unknown person in a supermarket car park for example. You can pay an extra daily amount to cover or waive this charge but it can be an extra £10 a day. That bumps the car hire price up a lot. However I have found on the Internet that you can insure against having to pay that 'excess'........ for less than £2 a day. Guess what I am paying... £10 or £2. Although it is 4 months off yet, I am planning a visit to see my daughter in Glasgow. And I have been invited for a meal to some friends who live near Ingleton. I also need to see about new glasses early in the visit then they have time to make them. My diary is filling up quite well at the moment. You will all have to get in quick. ;D Regards. Trev..

It would be nice to meet up with you at some point in your schedule. Perhaps we could all meet up and watch the posh people having afternoon tea at The Midland, followed by a Pic 'n' Mix scattering ceremony outside the old Woolworths.

;D now you'll get us all arrested as potential litter louters.
One thing we were advised when hiring a car abroad Trev, make sure you look it over with the person you are hiring it from and point out any pre-existing dints and scratches so they don't try to claim that you made them when you hand it back.

Hi Willow. This made me laugh..."One thing we were advised when hiring a car abroad Trev, "
Abroad for me is the UK. But thanks for the tip.
Keith. Maybe we could meet whilst I am there, 8th to 20th June. We must both remember to organise something nearer the time.
Cheers. Trev..

Abroad for me is the UK. But thanks for the tip. That's what I meant Trev. When you hire a car here you will be hiring abroad. So give it a thorough inspection with the company you hire from.

We will organise something if your schedule permits. Take some piccies of the car at the place of collection. I feel sure that I will have a good bit of spare time to meet new 'online' friends. Unfortunately in that respect if they are workers I will be in Glasgow during the weekend. I will have some free time in the first week and even more in the second one. We will sort something out, and I will be open to all suggestions. ;D And as both yourself and Willow have said, check the car. I usually wear my camera / phone pouch on my belt, so my camera will be readily accessible. Regards. Trev..

Hi all. I hope you have had a good day at work. And for those who are retired like me I hope you have been.... A lady of leisure, or a man of pleasure.... Ha ha. We have been out shopping again today and changing library books. It had been raining pretty hard here which is a nuisance, however we need the rain because some people are still on water cuts. The thing that brought about this post is...Parking. Now I may have mentioned before that in particular the Cypriot people do NOT like walking. When it rains they try even harder to park as near as possible to where they need to be. The first picture is a Pedestrian crossing with the zig zags like you have in the UK. But the nearest shop is a Bakery for bread and cakes etc. I wonder if we can park anywhere nearby...... This second one is a little after one o'clock when the schools finish for the day, so it is busy. People collecting their children park near to the school buildings which are on the left. But maybe you can see the school crossing sign....... Perhaps the drivers can'tYes the Ford Fiesta is parked, with no one in it. Parking wardens.... what are they? Cheers. Trev..

Perhaps we could export some of our spare wardens to you Trev, they would have a field day in all that sunshine.

One of the problems here with both wardens and police is everyone knows a member of the family. So no one likes to rock the boat by booking a friend of a friend. From time to time the traffic police have a Blitz. But they bring in Police from the next major town about 60 kms away, in the hopes that they do not know people here. Maybe it works.. I don't know. Cheers. Trev..

You are in luck, neither of the traffic wardens, I have locked in our cellar, know anyone in Cyprus. I will wrap them up brown paper and ship them out tomorrow via DHL, that will solve 2 problems, your parking troubles and somewhere to put Mrs. Keef.
All we are saying is - 'Give Turf a Chance' - It will grow on you.
