Thanks for the info Dave. Now we will have to see what they eventually do with her. But if she is floating they will perhaps try to make her lighter and tow her somewhere.... in time.

Yep she was afloat and and was limping down the Port with the help of the 'Tioga B', She is now berthed in the North east corner out of harms way. Both the 'Mersey Mammoth' and the 'Tioga B' have now left Heysham. Abigail H + Tioga B Mersey Mammoth Mersey Mammoth and Tioga B I have no Idea what they plan to do with the Abigail H personally after all this time I would imagine she will be towed away and Scrapped.. Hi Ian. Thank you for sharing even more good and informative pictures with us all. The Abigail H looks better and cleaner than I thought she would. But like you I still think that it is the end of the line for a hard working old lady.
Thanks again. Trev..

Hi Dave, great pictures we Must have only just missed each other as I could see the Mersey Mammoth moving across the Harbour as I was walking up the Track.
I took the Abigail H first by the LMS building then moved to the Roundhead for the Mammoth, She had folded the crane down in approx five mins then she was of.

Just been talking to a friend at the harbour today....the tale is that corrosion around the sea-cock was the cause of the sinking. Also that the vessel will not be allowed to leave the harbour and will be scrapped there. Tenders have been invited

Thanks for the update Dave. If the reason is correct, then it does not say much for the mandatory inspections. However it seems that we were correct that it is not worth refurbishing a 50 year old ship that has spent a while underwater.
The cutting up will be of interest, as she is in water at all states of the tide. I wonder if they will construct some kind of dam around her.

I think the idea is to remove as much weight as possible whilst afloat and then lift the hull out for finishing off.

Yes I can see the sense in that. I wonder how what size crane will be needed for the hull alone...... More Photo opportunities. ?? Cheers. Trev.. PS. On a lighter note. If you pay by the tonnage to moor in the harbour, the charge would get less and less each day. ;D

Well we no that the Mersey Mammoth can't lift her so that on leaves a land based crane! I personally would think it would have to be over 200Tone capacity because I think that they have to allow a percentage for error???
Now this is what has got me thinking there is not a lot of room to Build a Ainscough type crane, then they will have to find a place to cut her up..
I am starting to think that she may end up being towed away for scrap, perhaps Birkenhead, I have been told that they are getting very strict on contaminants oil etc so I think we will have to wait and see
And on a funny note they don't even mention the "Abigail H" is in the port when talking to other ships it's as though she has vanished ;D ;D ;D
