Just heard on the radio this morning about a ship which sank in Heysham Harbour. Firefighters from Morecambe managed to prevent most of the diesel from spilling into the water and have contained the bit that did.

Yes I saw it reported on the web yesterday. It was a comparatively small dredger......... Diesel leak after dredger sinks The size of the leak is being assessed(pic: Andrew Shepherd) An operation is under way at a Lancashire harbour to contain diesel which has leaked into the sea from a sinking dredger. The 34m (111ft) vessel, Abigail H, was moored at the north Quay at Heysham, but started to take on water and has sunk halfway into the water. A quantity of diesel has leaked although it is thought to be only a small amount. Fire crews are at the scene along with police and the Environment Agency. Abigail H is a 160-tonne dredger which is used to clear the harbour to ensure the safety of ships passing through. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) said it was unable to pump the water out because it was still filling the submerged compartments. Equipment to stop the spread of the fuel has been set up around the vessel, before salvage crews arrive Regards. Trev..

Oooh thanks for the pic Trev.
Quite brilliant that in Cyprus you knew about local news before we even had the report on Radio Lancashire! Isn't modern technology wonderful?

As you say. Tinteret is a wonderful thing. As I have said before, it is a pity that there is no webcam somewhere on Morecambe prom. I used to sort of work at the Harbour, therefore I am member of a couple of shipping forums. I also like to look at the Ben My Chree from time to time. Unfortunately I can only see it at Douglas, at docking times.... www.gov.im/tourism/webcam/webcam.aspx?webcam=1Regards. Trev..

You've reminded me of an old song of the Spinners there Trev - The Ellen Vannin Tragedy: Snaefell, Tynwald, Ben Machreidh, Fourteen ships have sailed the sea, Proudly bearing a Manx name, But there's one will never again.
Years since I sang that.

Hoping to have a walk down to the Harbour later. If I do I'll take the camera.

I will look forward to any pictures you may post. As you may know I spent a lot of years working for 'Althams' up near the traffic lights.

Thanks Dave I will keep checking back this evening. I used to be on the Ben-My-Chree every weekday lunch time. It was one of 'my' ships. I took the general supplies and food on board both for the crew and the passengers. This sometimes went to two or three pallet loads, in a 7.5 ton wagon. Each pallet being around a cubic metre. I had / have many friends on board. If I had time I used to sit and have a coffee with them and a little chat.
Happy Days.
Regards. Trev..

Good evening Dave. Many thanks for the pictures that you have taken today. I have certainly spent many hours in that area. The surprise in your pics was the almost lawned area and the narrow paths. That I have not seen before. The 'Ben' pics were good, and you even got 'Althams' in the background between ramps 1 & 2.
Thanks again......... for all your pics, day by day.
Regards. Trev..

Thanks for the photos Dave Ocean Edge is apparently trying to go upmarket and will not be taking tourers or tents next summer. I don't think they are doing themselves any favours. The camping/tourer field was always packed and as soon as someone moved off a pitch someone else came on.
