Well Ian according to what you were told MM is booked for Thursday the 20th. I think we shall just have to wait and see if anything happens. Do the other forums know where MM is at the moment?? Just like the Riverdance, a lot of what happens will be decided by the insurance company. Abigail H is 50 years old. And whilst not wishing to belittle her, she is just a dredger. If I was to put money on what will happen I would say that she will be scrapped. And if she is...... then Hancocks would be on my favorites list to do the work. Let's wait and see Regards. Trev.. PS. Mersey Mammoth is berthed in Brocklebank dock at Liverpool this evening.

Tonnages of shipping can be very confusing. Some refer to the registered tonnage and some the dids[lacement tonnage which is more accurate. Dave Hi trev we need your help with this one Went up today and there has been no change at all. Ian Hi Trev, Thanks for the info about MM Berthing, she has crept back home without showing much on AIS History. Could you help me and Dave out with the Tonnage question please, I will keep popping up to Heysham and I've mailed a pall on Flickr who works on one of the boats 'West Experess' and I've mailed my pro snapper mate to see if he has had any info, Then it all comes down to Thursday if MM hasn't moved in the morning I would put it down to a land based job now that they have dug that trench. Regards Ian

Hi Ian. As far as I am aware the lifting capacity of the MM is 250 tons. Have a look at... www.merseymammoth.com/. If it had been upgraded, surely it would be on their own website. Off to bed now. Nt nt Trev..

The Mersey Mammoth (Lifting Barge) has now moved across the Mersey to the Alfred dock in Wallacy.
I will try to keep an eye on where it goes.
Regards. Trev..

Thanks for that link Ian. I see on that link is some up to date information about the new ships for 'Seatruck Ferries' And for those that wonder how I can know where the ships are in the Irish sea when I live in Cyprus.... Have a look here www.shipais.com/gmap2.phpWhen the page comes on, give it a minute or two and the symbols for the ships will appear. As you will see you can zoom in or out and move about as well. Unfortunately the ships in Heysham do not show up, they are just out of range. Regards. Trev..

Hi Trev, I just clicked that link and moved up towards Heysham and I can see one headed for there now. It's a cargo ship called Arrow,

Hi Willow. Yes you can see ships all over the Irish sea, and a good number come into Heysham every day. Most of them go to and from Ireland, both northern and southern. They usually arrive and depart at the same time each day. It just so happens that in ROUND FIGURES it take 9 hours to get there, and 3 hours to load and unload. So they can do a return trip in 24hrs. The weather can play havoc with the sailings. If it is too rough or windy they cannot get in the harbour and anchor in the 'Lune deeps'. Some also anchor out there on the Layover day, ie day off. The picture that Ian has put on shows the Arrow with some rust showing, but it is only 10 years old and has been renamed a few times......
It's just a shame that the site that I gave the link to, cannot 'see' into Heysham Harbour.
Regards. Trev..

Just an added fact about the Arrow and Shield which is a sister ship, ie exactly the same design. If you look at this picture you can see that the lower deck is LEVEL from the hinge on the rear ramp, right down to the front (bow) of the ship. And there is a ramp going up to the top deck. But the amazing thing is...... There is another deck BELOW that where they can still get container wagon down there. They go down on a lift / hoist / platform. Now you can see why they need a dredger in Heysham and the approaches. And yes I believe the lifeboat does set off from there. Regards. Trev..

Breaking News folksI've just spoken to Heysham port Control ( Duty Manager ) and he says that the Mersey Mammouth is due on SATURDAY, I have just checked the Isle of Man Steam packet web site and the ferry Ben my Chree does not sail from Heysham on Saturday she sails from Birkenhead, www.steam-packet.com/SteamPacket/Book-Now/Book-NowThat should give them plenty of time to lift the Abigail H I only hope it's fine and that they do it at low water approx 13.30. If you are interested here is a link for tide times Hi and low water. www.pol.ac.uk/ntslf/tidalp.htmlIan

It would be brilliant if you could take some photographs of this on Saturday Ian. Yes it is a shame that you can't see into Heysham harbour from that link Trev but I still found it fascinating to see all the different vessels out there and where they were heading.

That ship movement thing is fascinating. Been watching the MM moving along the Mersey.
