We grow phone masts round here, they look like trees. Nice place Trev, I take it you have a dog unless that is your water bowl on the floor. I am using my psychic powers to deduce it is a small dog. No wait, you said you had a stray cat so you can't have a dog as they would be running around and the laptop would go flying.
I don't know how you sleep, with a Stop sign just outside your window:)

You get a much better idea of it with the furniture in. I see a 'Stop' sign through the window. I'd have expected it in Greek or Turkish!

Good morning All. I well remember the tree / mast at Bolton le sands on the hillside. It did look quite realistic I thought. Keith, your final deductions are right. It is a bowl of water for the 'stray' cat. We opened the door for it to go out yesterday, a worrying time. However he went out of the front door and up to the barred gate, he looked out and then ran back in again. We will try him again today with baited breath. Willow the stop sign is at the end of our road where it comes out on the main road, about 50 yds. Until you mentioned it I had not thought about the language on road signs. I cannot remember stop signs in anything other than English. But direction signs are in Greek (Cypriot) together with English, as in the first pic.... Regards. Trev..

When I saw the picture, I thought you were going to tell us that phone masts in Cyprus were in the shape of donkeys ;D
Cats instinctively know where they are welcome, letting it out shouldn't be a problem unless it gets a better offer.

It is certainly a big thing on our minds at the moment. The cat is a stray which we have moved about 4 miles. We are pretty sure it was domesticated at one time, as it has taken to living inside with us very well. But I wonder in my mind what will happen when he really goes out into the big NEW world outside. He has never seen our house...... from the outside, so how will he know where to return to??....... I know it happens all the time when cats are 'homed' from a sanctuary. We will have to give it a try. We can't keep the doors shut forever.
Cheers. Trev..

Maybe you could take him outside and give him a tour of the house exterior first. I can understand your concerns tho9ugh. When one of our cats went missing for a few days I was really upset about where she could be and what might have happened. What made it worse was that we were going away for the weekend and had to just go and leave her missing. She eventually turned up in a neighbour's shed. The lady came round to ours to tell us that there was a wild animal in her shed and she thought it might belong to us.

Hi willow. I am glad that you got your cat back OK. And I know how worried you would be during the time she was missing. They become a part of the family. I have thought of 'the grand tour'..... but wonder what would happen if he jumped from my arms and shot off in a panic. We will see how he progresses, there is not rush really. A saying in Cyprus is... 'Siga siga' ... Slowly slowly. By the way he never even ventured off the chair when I opened the door today Daft though it seems we still have the worry of the other little feral cat that we did not manage to bring with us. He is still hanging around our old rental, and i feed him when ever I go back to the village!!!! Aren't we soft in our old age? Regards. Trev..

Just a quick update. The cat was out a few yards yesterday. And he has been all round the outside of the house today, even onto next doors front patio. Phew!! thank goodness that he came back in. We will have another 'outing' tomorrow. I thought I would add some pics. Two from our front Balcony, showing the street and a Cypriot house opposite. And the (much magnified) view from the back terrace. This shows the highest mountain on the island, Mount Olympus. By the way..... In the first picture you will see a Satellite dish on the roof of a house. This is the normal size of dish that we need here to be able to receive 'Sky' television. The dishes are 3 mts accross. Yes they are a bit of an eyesore, but this is what we need...... or no UK television. Regards. Trev..

What a fabulous view from the back. Our Sky is misbehaving at the mo since we got a new TV. Haven't been able to get the silly thing to work. I suppose I would want some UK channels if I lived abroad.

Good morning all. Well it's another nice sunny day here in Cyprus. I thought the site was a little quiet yesterday, so maybe people were enjoying the weekend or just watching the TV. I hope Willow has got hers sorted.
THE cat has been out a few times now, so we have come to realize that he is not likely to run away. Just this morning he went into the vine field at the back of our house and disappeared. But he is back again now.
Today being Remembrance Sunday, we will no doubt be tuning in to the service in London. Perhaps some of you will be doing the same, or even going out to a service and remembering absent friends.
This reminded me that I had not seen Tim from Carnforth on for a while. So I sent him an Email yesterday which he has replied to. He has asked me to tell you all that he is still watching the forum and enjoying reading the postings. Here is the last line of his letter....
" Please let all know I think of them and will do my best to look in. Regards Tim aka tinytimsthings"
Take care all. Best wishes. Trev..

We've had a bit of a busy weekend one way and another. Yesterday, Saturday we were at a wedding which was lovely and the sun did decide to shine very briefly so they managed to get some nice photos between the torrential showers. In the evening we went up to Lancaster to see the fireworks - very wet. I shall comment on that elsewhere. Then today we were at church this morning, followed by haring off up to Lake Windermere to bring some people back. This is the first chance I've had to get online since Friday - as for the TV, not even had chance to watch that let alone fiddle with the Sky! Great minds think alike Trev because I was just saying to Coachman that I would drop a line to Tim to see if he was OK as he hadn't been on the forum for a while but before I'd had chance to get to the PC I see you have already done that! If you're reading this Tim it was nice to see you back on when I logged in just now, Your cat looks adorable Trev, and very much at home.

Hi All. well it is a week now since I added to this thread. Not a lot has happened that would be different to where you are. We have shopping to do (proper supermarkets), and we have to go out to pay bills. In fact it was whilst we were out going to pay the Electric bill that the police gave me a ticket. I was a fine only for making a right turn where I shouldn't have done. €25. but no points on my license. The Cat (remember?) has been out for another long day. But now his wanderlust seems to have gone because he only goes out for a few minutes. The weather is getting cooler at night now, and we have had the CH on for an odd night. But like the UK we have to keep an eye on the pennies or cents in our case. Fuel oil for the heating has come down and is about UK£ 0.60. Petrol is now down to about UK£ 0.75.
Bye for now. Trev..

From a cold, damp Lancashire Cyprus looks very appealing Trev.
Glad to hear your cat seems to have settled well after the move. He obviously knows where his bread is buttered.

Hi all. Well it is about a week since I added anything to this thread, so here we go. The weather is changing, it is definitely getting cooler especially in the evenings. Down in Paphos near sea level it is short sleeved shirts during the daytime, but you need a pullover in the evenings. We are now getting some days with heavy rain showers. But we still have had no more than about 12 days of rain since last May. As I type this at about 5-30 pm it is 17.1c outside and 19.9c inside. Up here in the hills you need a pullover a bit more of the time. We have had the heating on about 4 evenings up to now, and I have not made my mind up about tonight. Even the cat prefers to curl up on the settee, nothing new there . All the stores have the Christmas trees and decorations in and all the special food items. Christmas here is certainly celebrated but the main religious festival is Easter. However in the villages and in Paphos many decorations and lights are put up. I was going to take a photo or two and put them on here. But today someone alerted me to a 'you tube' posting which will show you what it is like here in the streets at Christmas..... uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ETgnikY1-_8Best wishes. Trev..

Looks very festive Trev. I wish we had your sort of cold weather here! It's freezing at present and we have no hot water since the boiler conked out last Thursday and the man still hasn't been!
