What with vandalism, keeping the water clean and the Health & Safety issues it would not be worth while. Sadly nowadays many of the simple things that we enjoyed have had to go for H&S reasons and the 'blame' culture that now exists. Regards. Trev..

There is a lovely splashy fountain area though that children can run through and play amongst.

Hi All. I hope that you are all enjoying a nice weekend. The beauty of being retired is that the weekend is not as precious as it once was because you have the weekdays free as well.
Another memory of Morecambe came back to me a day or two ago, but I am struggling with one detail of it.
Again this is going back a bit. In Queens square at Morecambe there used to be a variety of shops. one of them was a chemist and I think it was a Coop one. But it was inside that there was a remarkable 'relic' When you had bought what you wanted you gave the money to the assistant, who put that money with a note in a hollow wooden ball. A lever (or something) was pressed and the ball was lifted up toward the ceiling. Then by gravity the ball ran along a sloping double track into the cashiers office at the back. The correct change was put in the ball, and it was sent back to the counter in the same manner.
I just wondered if anyone else can remember this system (sorry no pic) as it must have been used in other towns as well.
Regards. Trev..

Oh yes I remember that!
There was a shop here in Accrington which operated the same system too. It was called Moffits and was a haberdashery. I used to love watching the thing go zooming off up to the cashier in the corner.

Sandylands paddling pool on the beach has almost vanished as well I spent many a happy time there with Model boat club, and at one point the back wall was over SIX feet deep, Another one of Lancaster city councils ideas 'Oh just let it fill with sand then we won't have to maintain it'. Ian

Ian I may be mistaken here but at the time the sea defences were being planned for the Sandylands are the offer of a new "Rock Pool" similar to the one at Bare was part of the plans. A local petition asked for this to be dropped and leave the old pool in place. The council agreed to this but did say that the old pool would not be maintained or dredged because of the anticipated build up of sand in the area. Dave

Hi Dave, You are right about Sandylands pool but what a lot of people felt was that the Rock type pool was to Small, they wanted somewhere safe where kids could row\ paddle canoes etc and be able to swim in.
