I should have looked at opening paragraph. Of course there were theatres that probably did dances.

Hi Tim. There were dance floors at the central pier, and I think at the West end pier as well. There was one at the Winter Gardens also. The only 'dance hall' that I can think of was at the Arcadian, and I think it was upstairs. However not being a dancer I am not able to provide any more details. I would have thought that 'callers' at dances would as you have said be more at village halls.
Nice to see you on line. Regards. Trev..

You had the Empire cinema, then the Floral Hall and then the Arcadian cinema. When I left school I trained as a Projectionist at the Old Classic(Odeon) Cinema, and I showed my last Big film Close Encounters at the Arcadian. And to cap it of I did Spot lighting for the Black and white Minstrells when they last came to the Winter Gardens, Sure brings back memories Ian

Hi Trev, from what I can remember the Dance floor was above the Floral Hall, and it also had a model railway in it, The Arcadian was purely a Cinema and only open in Summer for the last few years before it was pulled down Ian

Yes you're right Ian, it was upstairs. I only vaguely remember a model railway though. And of course there was a dance floor at the 'Gaumont'.
Cheers. Trev..

Well Ian, there is no shame in not remembering what was probably gone before you were around.
I see no one has said.. "I remember" when I mentioned the pleasure flights from the beach.
Here is another memory that had popped into my mind.
Can anyone remember the duck (DUKW) that used to give pleasure trips from the Battery slipway.
All this is showing my age.... Cheers. Trev..

Yes I think it was an ex army vehicle. I think they were all made for the army. I can't remember the colour of it. Maybe it was rust coloured. I do remember the waves seemed pretty near the top though. This pic is not from Morecambe unfortunately. Cheers. Trev..

I don't remember the flights but I do remember reading about a chap who fell out and landed on the beach.

Hi Keith . It is very regrettable that anyone should have an accident whilst trying to enjoy an unusual experience.
As you will see I have edited my last post.
I would be interested to hear the story if you know more about the incident.
Regards. Trev.

Hi
1)Yep, I remember seeing the aeroplane operating from the beach at Bare. 2)Broadway Wilton Lounge had dancing ?
3)The amphibious vehicle is an ex WW2 DUKW. I remember seeing them giving trips from beaches, but not at Morecambe.
4)The Gaumont was still standing in 1960 ish. I remember the Bowling alley being built to replace it.
5)Dance callers are for line dancing ?
6)I used to go to the Odeon for the Saturday Morning Club in the 60's
7)
Peter
