Re.. Yep, I remember seeing the aeroplane operating from the beach at Bare.
The reason that I was working for them, was because I had an appendix operation. I was 18 years old and I had to be off work for 6 weeks and I was told not to strain or lift things.
Opening and shutting a plane door suited me fine. as did the flying to Blackpool. I do not remember the accident that was mentioned though. But as I say I was only there for 6 weeks.

Kiddies morning at the Odeon, the good old days, Big Stage and a flat screen on the back wall ;D
Now the wall is the entrance to 1st stop DIY.
I only wish I'd kept my keys when I worked as a Projectionist I would love to have a look behind the scen's, there is a lot of unused rooms and passages.

The link is here... www.flickr.com/search/?q=morecambe%20postcards&w=allClick on the pictures, and then on 'all sizes' at the top of the pics. Have a good time viewing them.... all 282 of them. That's the tower which was supposed to rival Blackpool tower, where the Gala Bingo now is.

The Gaumont was at the junction of Lord st and the Eastern Promenade, to the right of Morecambe Town Hall.
I believe the tower was in the gardens to the rear of the buildings.

And Just be aware that many of the pictures have 'copyright' on them

Oh that all makes sense to me now because the Gala Bingo is set back from the road and to the right of the Town Hall building.

The Gaumont Building started by the side of the Town Hall gaerdens and ran round to where the houses start at the top of Lord St. The walled gardens at the rear extended to cover what is now the back car park at the Bingo hall. the rest of the land outside the gardens was known to us local kids (I lived on Lord St) till the age of 11 as Sherwood Forest which is now the old folkd place next to St Marys Church. I remember visiting the Gaumont to watch a show called "THe Dancing Waters" where a pumped water system sent jets into the air accompanied by coloured lights and classical music.

I remember going to see the 'The Dancing Waters' as well Dave. It was a very colourful show. No doubt with living on the doorstep you will remember that there were shops all around the front of the building. Unfortunately I cannot remember what sot of shops they were.

If you also look at the top picture that Peter posted you will see a small Footbridge. From the top of Lord Street to middway along to Green street there were a series of rock pools with pathways running around and over them. The Limestone horse near the RNLI Station formed part of these gardens and when the area was landscaped it was moved to it's present position after local opposition to getting rid of it. Dave

I vaguely remember gardens. How long ago was that? When I was younger we never really went up that end.

I vaguely remember gardens. How long ago was that? When I was younger we never really went up that end. The memory fades but the pools were there in the early/mid 50's then drained and left empty for many years. There were also another set of rock pools outside the SSS and of course the small pool and "waterfall" at Sunny Slopes. Dave

The area outside the SSS had a boating pool for model boats as I remember.
The pool at sunny slopes seems to have been there 'for ever'. And as you say there was or is a waterfall which ran into it.
I believe that the promenade area around there has been done up or improved. What has happened to the pool, is it still there in any shape or form.?
