I used to go to 'Rummbletums' and get heir home made pie and chips. I have even traveled from Bolton le Sands for them. Another regular one was Kennys on Lancaster road. Sadly I am not supposed to have fish and chips now, or a English breakfast.
There seems to be a bit of a tendency to make greasy chips these days (they always blame the potatoes) - actually it is this posh, supposedly 'healthy' fat they use. I need to get out and do some research on behalf of the forum.
From past experience:- The chippy in Poulton Square, opposite the Police Station used to be excellent but again, they were greasy the last time we were in. Walking to there on a Summer's evening and then taking them onto the sea front to play at tourists - heaven. Sam's chippy in the town centre (Queen Street I think) - you get indegestion just standing in the queue. Kenny's on Lancaster road is average to good and the one near Christie Park is a bit hit and miss. The best one recently was the Chinese at Hest Bank but we don't get F&C's very often these days.
In all the years Me & Mrs Musky have been coming to Morecambe we have never found a Good Chippy. What we do remember, about 30 years ago was a cafe ( At the back of the Prom ) that had a BIG GIANT meat & potatoe pie ( Desperate Dan Style ) steaming in the window. does anyone else remember this cafe.
Sorry I missed this.... Keith said "That will be the Cholesterol will it Trev?" Yes I have a tablet for high cholesterol, and another for high blood pressure. However (probably due to the tablets) I feel absolutely fine.
But I do miss good old fish and chips, which we can get here. I also miss 'English Breakfast'. Again they are in plentiful supply but my heart consultant has said NO only now and then.
It's strange they never mentioned all these things in the UK when the doctor stopped me working because of angina.
I suppose that it is the batter that is the killer, and maybe the fat on the chips. I had chips yesterday to accompany my cottage pie. Special offer. Two main courses for €6-96 about uk£6-25.
I went to see my quack this week. It was exactly 12 months since he scared me, and I gave up smoking.
So .........................................
*He asked me was I still smoking ? (hmmm ... he insisted I stopped and I've been ill ever since !) *Blood pressure now OK *Cholesterol all within limits, but I should increase olive oil and fish consumption to move HDL from 0.42 to 0.50. Could that be fish & chips cooked in olive oil ? *Blood sugar a little high - I replaced cigs with sweets & biscuits *And I've got to lose the 15kg I put on when I stopped smoking. *Stay off charcuterie (fat & salt)
You will not live longer, but it will certainly seem longer
The cafe you are talking about with the steaming pie in the window was there two summers ago when I was home. It is just off the promenade on Pedder St and the back alley that cuts through to Euston Road. I know the name but can't for the life of me think of it right now. Jean Brit in AMerica.
Oh well........ That seemed to be the one Jean was describing "It is just off the promenade on Pedder St and the back alley that cuts through to Euston Road."

I can't thin k of any other restaurant on Pedder Stret, but neither can I remember a steaming pie in the window of The Grove. Can you be a bit more specific with location of this pie Musky?
My wife and I, after scanning both our brain cells for a least a few seconds, recon it was HARTS RESTAURANT. This is on the promenade at the corner of Queen street. We seem to remember the window steaming up on the inside due to the heat of the big oblong pie dish.
Was this pie real or was it just for show? I have never seen one in the Pedder Street area, I will ask some of the old folks I know, see if they can shed any light on it.

Scun Thorpe: What kind of a moron are you, lee thorpe? Are you entirely incapable of elementary English?

Scun Thorpe: I thought this forum would be of interest. Obviously, a silly idea: allowing the cerebrally challenged to come on here and post complete gibberish is exactly what to do if you're looking to shut down something that may have been of interest.

WendyW: Evening all I had been telling my hubby about the time I was in Morecombe when the Moby Dick and Hotel was hit by lightening and burnt down. My parents, sister and myself had just come off the Moby Dick when lightening stuck

WendyW: As we walked away from the burning boat we walked past the Hotel, which had big stone balls on the towers, the lightening struck just as we walked past. I have a very healthy respect of thunderstorms.
