Can anyone take photos if there are crashing waves? I remeber one year being on holiday at Whitley Bay and one daft lad going down onto the lower prom when there was a particularly wild high tide. He nearly go swept off!

I will be around for the big one on Wednesday unless work gets in the way. I was annoyed on Friday when we drove up the prom from Broadway to Hest Bank and beyond. The view was magical but I didn't have time to take any pictures. Ian got some good ones with the calm sea but there were proper reflections of the snow covered mountains in the water. I have never seen it so calm before. I wish I had stopped but there was work to be done.

As far as taking photos of the waves I would say But you need to pick your spot carefully and Always keep the wind to your back, I Will Never go on the Fishing Jetty or the Stone Jetty when it's windy as there is no cover. But the shot I want to try and get is of the tide being pounded into the fishing Jetty by the Old "Grosvenor" , there is a fair distance between the sea and the prom and plenty of cover Ian

I had a look at that fishing skear down by the Battery a few weeks ago. Looks like a dangerous place to be at high tide. If the weather is bad on Wednesday, I might try to get some shots at the Hover House. I want to see how far up that ramp the water can get. I suppose we will have to check the waether forecasts on Tuesday night.
I know it is amazing but I have never seen the sea in Morecambe when it has been rough. I normally choose to stay at home where it is warm. I will get some shots of that one day.

Should be interesting when these new Maersk boats come to Heysham

So when I come to Morecambe, if I can't see that cone then I mustn't go and sit on that seat. And thanks for the pics Ian.
Cheers. Trev..

Yes I remember operation Neptune. There is no doubt that since then the new sea defences have stopped a lot of flooding, and on more than one occasion. Bold street and the basement flats on Sandylands prom would not be high on my list of places to buy.

I was doing "Knock up" on Bold street and Marlbourgh road, the house at the end terrace next to "Dayus" garage on Marlbourgh road had a Pool table floating in the games room in the basement, The owner was standing at the front door shouting and balling saying that he wanted it Pumping out, No chance was my reply ;D ;D I think the top of Sandylands would be Ideal for me, if only I Won the lottery

Does the cone have a purpose other than if you can't see it the water is very deep? (or it has been taken for scrap)

Does the cone have a purpose other than if you can't see it the water is very deep? (or it has been taken for scrap) Coming from seaward, it should indicate the right hand limit of entry to port or shelter. Would that make sense ? Peter
