Oh I get it. You wouldn't want to bump into anything as you crash into the sea defences on the beach. ;D
Seriously, was that fishing skear meant to offer shelter to boats?

To be honest Keith I don't think it was put there to shelter boats, you only have a narrow time span to sail before you end up on the beach again. And as far as I can remember there where a lot of complaints from locals about the "Weed" being left on the railings by the fishermen and the council got tired of cleaning it up. And when you look at the new railings that they have put up (Some of which) are broken on the skear to me the post feel like "Plastic", if they were metal they would be cold when you touch them these feel warm, Carbon fiber probably cheaper ;D ;D

Does the cone have a purpose other than if you can't see it the water is very deep?
I thought it was a marker for the end of the sewage outlet.

Yes, It is supposed to warn ships that there is a Structure underneath it. I think this is the sewage vent (but don't quote me) 1 of many I have taken of the bay, note the guy taking his dog for a walk along the pipe ;D Click to enlarge ;D
