Hi Willow. Yes musky is correct, it is a double garage. We have included it in the plans so that we can have permission to build one. However due to not knowing how much the bungalow will cost and if we can now afford the build.... we will just be putting a garage base down.
Regards. Trev..

Hi all.
Well here is the up to date news on the Electricity for our plot.
This morning I went to the Electricity board offices and delivered the application. The lady behind the desk scrutinised all the document that I had taken as well as the application form. She wanted to write down an address of the premises where I required an Electricity supply. But there is no address.... just a plot of land.
She stamped the form and wrote the reference number on a card and handed it to me. I asked what happens next and she said that they will write to me. I asked how long that would be..... one , two, or three months??. Much longer she said. "It takes many years"
I have notified our Architect that the application is in. And also that I have been told that it may take 'Many years' Hopefully there will be someone out there who can help us when the time is right.

Well here is some bang up to date news. As you will see in the last post, I notified the architect yesterday about the Electricity application. I also added that I was told... "It may take many years"
Well less than 5 minutes ago I had an Email from our architect. You have to read between the lines here, because it simply said.... " Don't worry I think we will find a way"
I will worry a lot less about it now.

Many years? Crikey I knew things were a bit more laid back in Cyprus but at that rate you'd have neeed to have ordered your leccy before you even moved to Cyprus! Let's hope your architect knows how to oil a few wheels.

I don't mind 'Oiling a few wheels' .I just hope that the oil is not too expensive. With regard to being patient then it is a very laid back culture here. But having said that.... WE WANT OUR HOUSE!!! ;D we will save the Metaxa brandy for when we eventually get the quotation for the building. ... we may need it. Trev..

I was thinking you might need the Metaxa for the architect, electricity man, water board, bank manager, tax man etc ?
Best buy the shares now.

Yes I can see what you mean re the Metaxa shares. At the end of the job we would certainly reward the Lady architect with a gift. The Electricity crew I am not so sure about??? The tax man we are not concerned with. We have registered here to pay tax, but we come nowhere near the threshold which is €19,500.... each. Again, I am not sure about the banking staff. We have to go to see them in early December as our 'house money' investment is due for renewal. It always seems a struggle to get the best rates out of them. And lastly..... WATER!!!! we have not even looked into getting a supply of water or how much that is likely to cost. I do know that the nearest drinking water is about 500 mts away. However over here in Cyprus they just lay the water pipes along the ground next to the fields, at least in the countryside. I dare not think of the cost. Maybe we should get in some stocks of Metaxa for our own consumption. ;D Cheers. Trev..

Good morning all. Last night we went to the village Taverna for a meal, both to feed us and to keep in with the Tavern owner. (remember electric) To start any meals you get a largish bowl of Salad and some dishes with dips in them. You also get a basket with Garlic bread in. Then you have the main meals. Hilary chose Pork chop and it turned out there were two medium ones on her plate, together with home made chips. I chose to have Kebabs and again there were loads of them, already taken off the skewers, and of course the chips. I know Heart patients should not have chips!!..... They also brought a plate of Pitta bread but we couldn't eat any of it. We had enough to feed the cats that were around the taverna and to bring some home for 'Tigger' The lady then brought two plates for the desert, but we refused them as we couldn't eat any more. Dessert is usually Grapes, or battered Dough balls or a sweet pastry. We also had a large Keo each with the meal, and two cups of Nescafe to finish with. The tavern owner came to chat at the end and topped both our beer glasses up from another bottle. The total bill was €25-00 which is about £23-00 So very good value for money and we were both bursting. When we left the Taverna we looked at the outside of a timber frame house that is being built in the village by some English builders. It is a 'kit' from Thomas Mitchell Homes in Scotland. I will post the link and hope it opens at the one in our village. sites.google.com/site/houseinkallepeia/Have a good day all. Trev.. PS. 10-00 am and it is 75f in the shade. ;D

Great link Trev and nice to see someone write a diary of their house build. Amazing how quick the job gets done when a team are involved. Are the plumbing and electrics to be buried in concrete?
I have seen the programs on telly about the house kits but they have always been constructed by a team of German builders and the house imported. Nice to see that Scotland can compete. Are you going down a similar route or is yours to be built on site?

Hi Keith. Yes some of the plumbing and Electrics are buried in the concrete floor, before the tiling is laid. I think you will see some of the pictures. The cables are mainly in the 1st floor, the false roof and the studded walls.
As to whether we are going down this road I do not know at the present. I suppose it mainly depends on the cost. I have been in touch with Thomas Mitchells, and they say they will quote a price if we send some plans. I am also waiting for a brochure from them. They have told me that they do extra treatment of the timber to counteract Termites. I do know that they are here ion the island but I have yet to see one.
The local builders constructing the one on Mitchells site also want to give us a price as well. It will cost nothing to get a price off people, so we will see what transpires when we are able to provide a specification for them, in the not too distant future we hope.
Cheers. Trev..

I've seen the German ones on TV too and was surprised at how quickly they go up and how precisely they are made.
Our church is actually a brick cladded timber construction and I had never seen anything built that way before so I took photos of every stage. Unfortunately I don't know what happened to the photos. They were in album in the chapel library but I think somebody 'borrowed' them.

That's exactly the same idea Willow. The only difference is here the timber inner wall and the brick / block outside wall are built on a concrete slab. A bit more news price wise today... I was quoted €9,000 for the (20) windows and doors in UPVC. Time to look around I think.. Cheers. Trev..
