1st October 2008
The Harbour Band Arena will be cleared soon to make way for "public space"
£12.5 million cash hope for Winter Gardens....if the council apply for Government funding .
Work as started on the new Lifeboat Station
Land next to Heysham Power Stations could be sold off by new owners for another company to build a new nuclear facility

I'm intrigued by the potential sale of land next to the Power Station. The only land I can think of there is Ocean Edge caravan park. A few weeks ago a worker there was telling me that the land was owned by the power station and he was speculating about what would happen if they decided to sell it.
Let's hope the council do get government funding to help with the Winter Gardens renovations. Volunteers have put so much work into that and it deserves recognition. £12.5 million would go a long way.
Wonder what exactly is meant by 'public space'? Will the Arena area remain open and accessible? If so then that too will be most welcome. It's a bit of an eyesore there at the moment isn't it?

The land in question is land currently owned by British Energy. British Energy is to sold to EDF of France and it is they that may sell some of the land. The arena are will be flattened and grassed over got the time being. Dave

Am I thinking of the right area? The bit where there's a derelict band stand and a derelict hut which used to sell 'Jugs of Tea'? I would be happy for them to leave it grassed over as a nice open area between the Midland and the sea.

Walked past Motorworld on Monday and the front of the shop, was cleared. Now this part of Morecambe does not look too bad quite nice really but hang on a bit. OK so I have doctored the photos a bit an removed some of the contractors vehicles because there is action at the, what shall we call it? Bubbles development. Here is a reminder Surely they can't be spoiling this fabulous area Phew - The area around the old Bubbles 'Super Swimming Stadium' (who on earth came up with that name - Morecambe, outside - Brrrrrrrrr!!!!!!) is to remain an open space for now but there are workers here - What are they doing? Are they developing this area then? This is not the end of this story. What do you think?

At the risk of being a spoilsport the contractors are building the new Lifeboat Station wgich will house the Hovercraft.
The old bandstand site is due to be flattened at grassed over but as the station will take approx 12 months to complete I wouldn't hold your breath.

Motorworld was a Halfords type car supplies shop but I don't know the structure of the firm. I didn't know they were closing but if they have any bikes on special I could be very interested.
