Back to sensible mode now. Bondee Are ultrasonic anemometers used because they have no moving parts, so they are more reliable? Spot on, sir! The type that we make also have a built in temperature sensor and heaters so they can be stuck up there, 100-odd metres above the waves, and left alone, no matter what the weather.

To resurrect an old thread and blow my own trumpet... If any of you are interested in what I do for a living, Quest (channel 38 on Freeview) will be showing an episode of Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe at 1600 on Sunday 28th March.
The first part of the programme shows Mike working with a team of wind farm technicians at Blue Canyon Wind Farm in Oklahoma.
While they are checking that the bolts and instruments on top of the nacelle are tight and undamaged we are treated to a perfect shot of the anemometer. The turbines at Blue Canyon are slightly smaller than the turbines out on the bay (80 metre blade diameter rather than 90) so there's only one anemometer per turbine instead of two.

So what bit is your job Bondee? Unfortunately I didn't see it. Had a bit of a hectic and topsy turvy time around here these past couple of weeks or so. I haven't had as much time.

I recorded it and burnt it on to a DVD which is doing the rounds at work. ;D Unfortunately I don't get to climb the turbines. I'm stuck in a workshop in south west London making a product that's about 6 inches high. If you take a look at this photo from the Kentish Flats website you can just about make out my handiwork. They're the tiny black splodges in the middle of the hoops at the rear of the nacelle. (I didn't hotlink to the picture because it's quite big, about 3MB, might take a while to download) Another, slightly smaller picture (1MB) of the same section but from a different angle. The Kentish Flats windfarm has 30 Vestas V90 turbines, the same number and model as the Barrow Off Shore farm. I'm really proud of the fact that my work is both on and around the part of the world that I call my spiritual home. Although, on the downside, it does mean that I can never get away from my job!

Mrs Keef has some really good cream for getting rid of splodges and the side effects of having to drink a lot of tea is a bonus for me too.
