Hi everyone, I have been studying my family tree for a few years now and its lead to your lovely town.
The family members I am reserching are GERTIE and THOMAS WASTALL both born about 1900 and there son ERIC WASTALL born 1925 and i think he died in the 2nd world war in 1944.
They were not born in Morcambe but moved there from Yorkshire to run a bed and breakfast called SUNNYVILLE.
I have a couple of pictures of them standing outside the B & B and it has a number 27 on the front gate but I dont know the name of the street.
I Know that Gertie still SUNNYVILLE when she was quite old, maybe 1960/ 70 ?. If anyone can remember anything to do with this family or sunnyville, it would be a great help, however insignificant it may seem it could give me a bit more of a lead.
Thanks for your time, Gertie was my Great auntie and I would to surpise my dad and tell him ive found out somthing.

Great, thanks musky. I have an old photo of Girtie standing outside the Bed and Breakfast and it had SUNNYVILLE and their surname WASTALL printed on the glass over the door and the number 27 on the gate. I had a day trip to Morcambe a few weeks ago and that got me thinking about this branch of our family tree, but I just did not have a clue where to start looking or if it was even still there? I look forward to hearing from you......Thanks Ray

Hi Rayiddon. After seeing your pictures sorry to say but it's not the one I had in mind. Hopefully someone on the site may know more with you putting the pictures on.

I oo have tried to find 'Sunnyville' via the Internet. It would appear that the name is not in use now, even though there is photographic proof that it was a long while ago.
Now that we can see the pictures, we know that it is not on Sandylands because there is a reflection of properties across the road.
Regrettably it is a fact that it could be any number of different streets and roads in Morecambe as lots of them were built almost the same and of the same stonework.
One way could be to find an really old copy of the Morecambe Guide and look in there for 'Sunnyville' These may be available at the library or the town hall.
Hopefully all the history has not been thrown away.
Sorry I have nothing positive. Trev..

Right back to the original request. You mentioned a family tree. My wife has found a family tree of the family Iddon. Presumably this is your family and you are NOT needing all the information off the tree about family members???
The family names that my wife has found (plus other info) are....
Alfred Wastall
Thomas Wastall...... son Eric Wastall
Edward Iddon..... Margaret Wilding..... Gertie plus 12 brothers and sisters
William... James... Lillie.....Bertie.... Albert.... Ada.... Walter... Jessie.... Fred.... George.... Florence..... and Harold
All this is in the public records and of course dates and jobs etc.
We still have no info re Morecambe. Sorry.
Regards. Trev..

Thanks anyway Musky. Trev, thanks for all your time, I was only interested in Sunnyville out of curiosity if it was still standing and maybe come and get a updated photo of it. I think I have all the detailsI need of the Iddon family tree, of the brothers of Girtie, Harold was my Grandad and Walter my great uncle. I traced his family and that is where I was given these photo's. It dos'nt appear that their are any further generations of Wastall after their son Eric. so this branch seems to have come to an end. The wierd thing is that when I started this family tree a few years ago, my father only thought he had an uncle walter, he was never told of the other 10 aunties and uncles. Even though 3 of them died as infants its still a bit strange, families eh? lol. Thanks to all that have taken the time to raed and reply to this thread.

Good Morning Ray. I thought that you must have all the Riddon family tree. And yes you are correct about finding 'strange' things when you delve into family history. In fact I would hazard a guess that most people researching family trees find a skeleton in the cupboard somewhere... including our family.
Re the guest house... I still think the best bet is someone on the ground in Morecambe looking for an old Morecambe Guide in the Library or the Town hall archives.
Cheers. Trev..

Had a look around, and it could be Claremont Road. Photos sent to Ray.

I have had a look on plan views at 27 Claremont. I see at least a few years back it was a house in a terrace with a shop at either side. Of couse the shops could have been added at any time in the past.

Hi Trev, Yes, 27 is one of the few to still have it's original window and doorway, most of the others on the street have had shop fronts fitted. It was Ravensdale Insurance brokers for a long time, but looks to be a house again now. I'll put a photo on here tonight so you can compare them. I'm sure it's it though. The pattern of the stonework matches, even a chipped one. The front walls have all gone of course, but the short bit of wall coming out between the houses is still there and matches too. David

Hi David. Well you seem very confident and you have seen both the pictures.
If you are correct then very well done indeed. It will be interesting to see the picture and compare it with the other original.
Cheers. Trev..
