Good morning Peter. Re when did the Owls Nest open.... well I don't know the answer to that as it is a pub in it's own right now. But it was certainly there in the early 1900's. It was the original gate house to the Elms Hotel. I saw it when I served my apprenticeship in bare village in the late 50's But I cannot remember what it was used for then or if it was just boarded up. But as I say it was around well before you.
Re the old swimming stadium, I remember that well. My wife does as well because she used to work there for a short while. It's replacement ... Bubbles seemed to be not too bad an idea and the wave machine seems to go down well. Why it only lasted a comparatively short time I do not know. But again it does not seem to have been one of the better decisions / buildings that the council were concerned in.
By the way I believe Bubbles has Gone...
Regards. Trev..

The Owl's Nest is a nice pub and is on our list of occasional watering holes. This is what The Old Swimming Stadium, looks like these days when the fair is not in town. Bubbles would have been a great idea but some numpty decided that an outdoor pool would work in Morecambe. Look at the Sandcastle in Blackpool - spot the difference!

Yes I think the days of open air swimming pools seem to be over. At least as regards building new ones.
The old open air 'Super Swimming Stadium' seemed to be a success, but maybe my mind just goes back to the good Summer days there.

A swimming pool would be a good place to put big glass roof. The place could also be filled with tropical plants and exotic butterflies who thrive in high humidity. It could be like a tropical paradise with a coctail bar in the middle, like they have abroad.
Darn it, there I go again thinking of things that could attract tourists to Morecambe.
Sorry Mr. & Mrs. Councillor, let's stick with your original plan, close all the attractions and keep them pesky day trippers out of our town.
I just don't know what I was thinking.

I know what he meant but thought I would be Orthopedic (as Mrs Keef would say), she has a way with words, if not always the correct ones.

Well I wish a good word would just come to mind, but I am a frayed knot. What I do know is that Keith seems to have a lot of spare time..... DIY finished then Keith?? Trev..

DIY still going on but restricted to weekends. I have been wrestling with an interface to Paypal's Instant Payment Notification function today and as a means of taking a break I have been on Bay web a few times. I find it better than sitting in a dark room with ice packs on my temples. PayPal thing is now working and the client's site has already taken its first orders.

It's for taking payments on websites.
There will be more D.I.Y. this weekend after a couple of weekends off.
