Good morning all. Although I mentioned this a long while ago on the 'links' page, I thought it was worth mentioning again. Many many towns are covered by a system of Aerial views which means that you can see a picture of all four sides of your house from the air. Morecambe, Heysham and Lancaster are covered, as is Accrington. It is usually possible to take a 'snapshot' to show your own house and surrounds from 4 different angles. Here is an example of a property on Heysham road in Heysham, and one from the Accy area. They are from a site called 'Bing maps'. Just remember not all the country is covered by Aerial Pictures. If you need any more information just ask

I'm trying to recognise that Accrington photo. It does look a bit familiar. I'm going to pop onto that site and see what else I can find.

You should remember or recognise it. It is from your road / street /lane / avenue. On the right going up. the last row before the large works. Trev..

I think you may be in the wrong part of town there Trevor. Willow, despite her name, would never live among so many trees. I think she would also be shocked to hear about a factory being built.

Well I believe I am in the right area of Accy. Willow is a lover of trees, you only have to look at her name....Willow (tree). She is a real 'Tree Hugger' If you are truly from Accy then you would recognise it immediately....... Unless of course you are an Impostor. Trev..

That factory used to be Lynch's garage.
Coachman reckons there aren't any trees in Accrington.

You have to understand that Coachman as a professional driver has to keep his eyes on the road, especially when on trunk routes. But the picture below show plenty of trees and greenery. Trev..

What you are forgetting Trev is that I was born less than half a mile from Willows house. Trees will never grow there!

Ignore him Trev. Trees do grow here. I will go outside and photograph one later today just to prove it. Coachman reckons they don't qualify to be called trees because southern trees are bigger! Some of ours are quite tall though.

They are from a site called 'Bing maps'. Just worth saying that www.bing.com is the latest attempt to catch up with google in the search engine stakes. It's use is growing rapidly in US - less so in Europe. Peter

Hi Peter. Yes the Bing maps are not as good as Google 'Street View'. However Street view is limited to Twenty odd towns / Cities in the UK. The Bird View in Bing is IMHO very good. You can capture the already Zoomed image, and in a Photo Site you can zoom further.
Another plus over Google Street View is that you can see all 4 sides of a property. Also the resolution is a lot better than Google Earth.
Regards. Trev..

I have just looked on Bing maps 'Birds View' and it covers Limoges in France which is the general area that Willow and Family were in.

I'm lucky because my local area has quite a lot of "street views" e.g. : maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=sommieres&sll=43.782125,4.088631&sspn=0.068164,0.110378&ie=UTF8&layer=c&cbll=43.78229,4.088976&panoid=Cdz7AHzg49-3_jics9OK8w&cbp=12,37.12,,0,5&ll=43.782234,4.088867&spn=0.008521,0.013797&z=16 This is because they tested it on last years Tour de France route which comes close to me. This is where I watched it last year : maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=sommieres&sll=43.782125,4.088631&sspn=0.068164,0.110378&g=sommieres&ie=UTF8&ll=43.777193,4.065075&spn=0.034085,0.055189&z=14&layer=c&cbll=43.777247,4.064872&panoid=sdelozKuxWniGS15bXxUjw&cbp=12,90,,0,5 I was under the trees on the right. We also have www.geoportail.fr , which is a French govt attempt to show that they can do anything US can do ! It is based on aerial photos. The latest ones are much better definition. Peter

Hi Peter. I have just looked a two of the Google links. I will have a look at the French one later. From what I have seen I now know that you have 'Lidl', and you drive on the wrong side of the road. Cheers. Trev..
