As there seem to be a few of mature years here, I guess there are substantial resources on "old morecambe".
Who remembers :
Morecambe Bowl Aircraft flights round the bay The Trap Door "Jacks" snooker club Burtons Moby Dick Ivy Diddle Apollo Lounge Kismet Room Super Swimming Stadium Horse drawn landau's Green buses Colin Crompton Nellie Bolton Heysham Head Go cart racing Boat trips to IoM Glasgow holiday weekends Odeon cinema childrens club The Hatch Club The Red Well Wakes weeks Trimpell petrol tankers parked by the stone jetty at breakfast time
I'm sure that I'll think of some more !
Why now, you ask ? I had lunch in Montpellier last week with someone I haven't seen since we left school in 1970. We talked about memories - actually half memories !

The only one that I don't remember is 'Kismet Room' But I certainly know of all the other's. In fact I helped with the flights from the beaches both at Heysham and Happy mount prom.
You must surely remember 'Brubecks' coffee bar. And there is / was the Admiralty??? club on Heysham road.

Is it possible that I am too young to remember Brubecks and the Admiralty ?
But, please, someone remind me of the name of the nightclub under Smiths Cafe on the prom !
Kismet room was upstairs and left in the Broadway.
Kismet & Apollo were managed by Cyril who had wife & two sons keeping things in order in the two bars.
The Apollo was upstairs and right at the Broadway. Before relaunch in around 1971 it was called the Palm Court lounge.

Hi Dave. Yes you are right....... It was the 'Naval club' I knew it had something to do with boats ;D
Brubecks was trendy coffee bar at the junction of Northumberland street and Victoria street.
I can't ever remember anything underneath Smiths on the prom though.
Cheers. Trev

How about the Alhambra Theatre? And pony rides on the beach. And, not all that long ago but sadly missed, the nettle beer in Heysham.

Well I remember going to see 'Toad of Toadhall' at the ROYALTY THEATRE. Now that must be a long time ago.
I was also a regular at the Palladium Cinema.

I don't remember the ship breaking yard, but on the land that is now fairlea & fairhope avenues there were piles of rusted iron from ships. This would have been around 1959. Peter

Hi Peter. Unfortunately I have no access to Aerial pictures of the 50s. But certainly the pictures of the 60s show that building was well underway. Regards. Trev..

We have only been here since 1992, but I remember:
Nettle Beer in Heysham. Blobbygate in Happy Mount Park. The Midland Hotel going through numerous hands and back again...and it is trouble once more. The Chinese Cocklers. The years it took to redo the prom. Angela, the lovely dog warden who died suddenly. The punk festival - Kicked out by our council...and now they have gone to Blackpool, where they flock in their thousands. Weep Morecambe.

They were both quite a bit shorter then. Marton Drive, Warwick Ave, Homewood Ave, Ashfield Ave, St Albans Rd, Ranleigh Ave and Hamilton Rd were not finished and most not started. I can remember being chased off the building site half way down Fairlea Ave by the builders. I would have been 10 ish. maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=morecambe&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=36.589577,56.513672&ie=UTF8&ll=54.07509,-2.828228&spn=0.006622,0.013797&z=16 Peter

I am sorry that I never had a trip in a Landau. . I remember having a ride in one when I was very young. I was on holiday with my Mum and Dad at the time.
