I shall have a look into this Peter because I did originally set it so that guests can view but not post. I may be able to sort it out whilst we are here or it may have to wait until we get home. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

Well, I looked at it from France and I looked at it from back in England. I looked as a guest in both locations and I could view all the topics as per the original settings which I chose. I have also looked at the settings and they have not changed so now I'm confused.
Does anyone else have a problem viewing the forum without logging in?

Well I logged out and left the forum. I then typed it into Google and entered the site and could read any post that I wanted to. But the URL was.. morecambe-bayweb.proboards.com/index.cgi? and not the one that Peter posted. So no problems on my laptop. Cheers. Trev.. EDIT... Mrs N. who is not a member can read the posts on her PC as well.

Another question for Willow, as she is having a quiet time 'boiler man' waiting.. At the bottom of the Forum Home page there is this message... 1 Member, 0 Guests. Most users online was 27, Oct 13, 2008, 4:52pm. Surely this has been overtaken now. Some days are so very very quiet. But today for instance the world and his wife seem to be on. By the way the 13th of October last was a day that I was NOT on, as we were moving. Not on tonight either, off out for a nosh. And tomorrow morning is Shopping Trev..

Do you still have problems viewing as a guest Peter? Yes. And occasionally when logged in. I guess it could be something at my end ? I'm using the chrome browser ? Peter

The boiler man came ............... very sad news, the boiler is past redmption and we are going to need a new one. Asfor the number of people online on any given day I shall have a peruse of that when I have a few more spare minutes. Do you still have problems viewing as a guest Peter? Yes. And occasionally when logged in. I guess it could be something at my end ? I'm using the chrome browser ? Peter I've just tried out a few different browsers since you said that Peter, as I hadn't thought it could be a browser compatibility problem. All of them seem to be OK and allow guests to view as instructed, apart from Chrome and Opera. Now I know Opera used to so this must have happened since the last Opera update. I'll have a word with the 'powers that be' and see what they come up with (if anything)............... watch this space.

Could you have a look at it now Peter and see if you can view the threads as a guest
I've had a look both with Opera and Chrome since having a bit of a fiddle and it seems to be letting guests view OK now.

Yep, they certainly are. Different browsers react differently to things and it hadn't occurred to me that something very simple in the coding would cause problems. I should really check every change I make by looking at the board with different browsers. Little lesson learned there. Meanwhile I now have another small problem. My favicon has done a bunk. The host where I had it uploaded seems to have disappeared and to complicate matters I can't find where I saved the blessed thing so I can't upload it elsewhere! ;D Ah the trials and trubulations of message boards!

It is a small icon that appears in your bookmarks/favourites list in some browsers. If you name it favicon.ico and upload it to the route directory, it will be automatically detected. www.the-languedoc-page.com/favicon.icoIt is said to have the advantage that people with large, unstructured favourites/bookmarks easily spot the logo and therefore come back to your site more often. Ahh. I see. " People with large, unstructured favourites/bookmarks" would include ME. Although mine are in Alphabetical order. I think that I DO have favicons, as I have little Icons on the left hand side. They just appeared automatically when I upgraded to IE 7.
Thanks. Trev..
