Just a quick update on the hallway. The cabinet is almost finished and it is time to start filling it up. The shoes are to be supported on acrylic bar and rails. First a little test to see if the theory works. The verticals have been drilled and pegs to support the rails inserted. The horizontals are a mixture of 10mm and 6mm bars. The 6mm bars may need to be replaced with thicker ones as they are a bit too flexible. The very small leather ones were to be suspended using cotton but thin fishing line was found to be much better. The line also holds the bars onto the pegs. So far so good but the 6mm bars need to be replaced and 2 of the bars will have to be raised as they position the very high healed shoes at the the wrong angle. I plan to make some hooks out of the 6mm bar I replace.

This is where the fruits of yours and Mrs Keefy labour are now showing. It is looking good. I like the very small pair of shoes best.
You will soon be ready for that 'Opening Ceremony'

I have ordered some more 10mm acrylic bar to finish it off and then we can spread them oout more. It all looks a bit bottom heavy at the moments. All the shoes will have to come out before the new bars can be put in place. Just taking a break from thinking and I took this picture of the smallest shoe in the collection. The coin is a 10p. The opening ceremony will be performed by Elvis providing he can get the night off from the kebab shop.

That's looking really good now Keef. Perfect way to display those shoes. i've just got one question though. What happens when Mrs. Keef has filled it and is still collecting more shoes?

I have ben a bit too busy to update this thread and to cap it all my entire website has died this morning while I was working on it. It is a problem with the ISP but I doubt it will be sorted out until tomorrow at the earliest. Even all the pictures on this forum are missing - bah. I find it amusing that the ISP's control panel for my various sites, says everything is working normally - I am sure that history will prove that the statement was a little inaccurate.
The shoe cabinet is finished and looks very good - I have taken the pictures but they need to be edited and uploaded. The latest job is panelling part of the kitchen with some of that external plastic cladding, marvellous stuff. I panelled the main part earlier this year but needed to block up an old window and panel behind the big fridge freezer. The FF has to stay in the kitchen as it is too big to get it into the rest of the house. Well it will fit through but has to be lifted above the kitchen units, something I cannot do on my own. The panelling is nearly complete, just one thin strip to go and the trim. Been using that instant grab adhesive to stick the trim on but it does not instantly grab anythin, it takes about 20 mins to stick. The choice is either to hold it in place for that long or wedge it in some way, a job for those extenging clothes props that Mrs. Keef lends me from time to time.

and even as we speak, the website has mended itself. They will say that there was nothing wrong but the truth is out there. Now I need to remember what I was doing when the plug was pulled.

They will say that there was nothing wrong but the truth is out there. Ah but can you prove it? Look forward to seeing the finished cabinet.

A few quick snaps of the finished article. Taking pictures through the glass has been a problem, even with a polarising filter. The reason for that, I am informed by an 'expert' is the fact it is toughened glass which isn't as flat as normal glass so reflections are not fully polarized. It sounds a very good reason for poor photos even if it is not true. The cabinet from the back Close up throught the left hand window and the right hand window and finally the front. I am pleased with the final result. The shoes used to be in the dining room, crammed into a dosplay cabinet, now they can be seen.

What a brilliant finished job Keith. You and Mrs Keefy must be very pleased with it all. Not just the show case but all the other areas of the house that you have decorated and improved.
Thanks for not only the pictures but for sharing part of your home with us.
Regards. Trev..

The hallway is nearly finished except for the carpet and the loft hatch. I have been looking at pull down loft ladders but cannot find one which will work in the space available. Things are very tight in there. I can get in off the big step ladders and I don't go up there very often so I guess it will do for now. There is a corner eave directly above the hatch and I have found it a perfect thing to bang my head on each time I go up there. The piece of wood sits on top of some draught excluding strip but it doesn't seal up properly. Most of the heat disappears up that hole so something more sealed is called for This is my prototype solution which does not use any kind of unsightly catch or bolt . I need something to fill the hole to act as insulation but not sure what yet. I will worry about that some other time. It has to be warmer with just this in place. I had intended putting it up today but the paint is still a bit tacky. I will paint it again once it is in place. The trees out back have been given a hair cut an 3 wheelie bins full of twigs have been removed from here. The wooden hand has found a permanent home here and looks a lot better for some loving care and a coat of linseed oil
