Hi all. Whilst I was visiting the area I had a couple of rainy day when I was struggling to know where to go. So I thought i would visit the maritime museum on the quay at Lancaster. It was well worth the visit. There are a number of floors to visit, and there is a lift for those who need it. As well as the many exhibits, there is also a very small cinema, and also a cafe. There is no entrance charge if you can say that you are a resident, and it is well worth the small charge if you have to pay. Here are a couple of pictures that I took whilst I was in there. The first is an old fashioned kitchen complete with 'Range' And the second picture is a reconstruction of a passenger canal boat that you can go aboard. Regards. Trev..

We have been here over 8 years and never been to the Maritime Museum - shameful! We have walked past it a number of times but always say we need more time to look round it properly, maybe this year. We have heard from a number of people that it is well worth the visit. The top picture looks almost like home, I have the same Singer sewing machine as the one shown but mine uses that new fangled electricity stuff and is still in working order. I use it occasionally for making curtains, window blinds and cushion covers and it will push a needle through anything, unlike the modern ones which jam up on thick material. Perhaps I should sit in the corner dressed up as an old maid and run off a few Victorian frocks during busy periods.

I used to have one of those Singer treadle sewing machines but my Mother spoilt it - it's gone now. I too have never visited that museum and keep meaning to but we've just never got round to it. My Granny used to have a range like that in her kitchen. She also had the posser and the wooden clothes maiden! We've still got a rack on pulleys and I wouldn't be without it. One thing does puzzle me though and that is that very thin flat cupboard. What would that be for?

Looks like a dartboard cupboard to me but what do I know. It looks too thin to be an actual cupboard, for cups and saucers but it could be as the cups were usually hung in the cupboard and the saucers stored vertically so they didn't gather dust.

;D It looks like a dartboard cupboard to me too but it would be a funny place to hang one wouldn't it? Omigosh! I've just realised my Gran used to have a rag rug like that too! apart from the dartboard cupboard they could have based that room on her house!
