It is within easy walking distance of Morecambe but where is it and what is it for. There are more of these near by.

Is this perhaps one of the tunnels that go through each pier of Skerton Bridge at Lancaster. Presumably they are inspection tunnels... Regards. Trev..

TISH, BAH, POODLE PUDDLES - Too darned easy. We had a walk on Monday down the cycle path to Lancaster, up to the aqueduct and back along the canal. I saw this small tunnel next to the old railway bridge and wondered what it was for. I did some looking up when I got back and discovered all kinds of interesting things about the bridge. The arches are drainage channels for times of extremely high water. Not sure if the water has ever been so high. They are all the way across.

I didn't know they were there either, until we walked past the bridge. You can't see them clearly from any of the roads.
