My first thought was a Neanderthal air raid shelter but because of the shape particularly at the far end, is it an entrance to something that is no longer there?

It is part of an industrial process but if I told you where it is, it would be obvious. Another clue - It is in Yorkshire. (that narrows it down a bit)

You are right about the location Dave, it is the Grinton Smelting Mill, high above Reeth but what was the purpose of the structure in the first photograph.
