I have been researching the history of the area's railways and found this site interesting. There are some good photos on there and one of particular interest is the black and white one of the old station, now the Platform and Tourist Information Centre. glostransporthistory.visit-gloucestershire.co.uk/electrif.htm

Oh and look at the lovely photo of the Midland hotel as it was without the 'overgrown shed' on its roof.

Hi all. Here is my first attempt at a picture? It is a picture of the Euston Road railway station. You will have to be of a certain age to remember this station. This picture did not post properly but Willow has reposted it further down. I remember youngsters taking visitors luggage to their hotels or boarding houses for a small fee. They used to use trolleys or bogies........ anything with wheels. And mostly the visitors used to walk by the side of them. Regards. Trev..

Oh and look at the lovely photo of the Midland hotel as it was without the 'overgrown shed' on its roof. The budget must not have included enough white paint!

That roof structure has actually significantly altered the profile image of the hotel as seen from the landward side. The central 'column' used to rise up above the two side wings in a very art deco manner. Now it just merges into the overall outline. I still think they should have painted the seahorses too. Those seahorses always seemed to stand out when I was a youngster but they merge into the general whiteness too much now. Was this your photo Trev? For some reason googlephoto is not co-operating.

Here is another attempt by me to put another couple of railway pictures on the forum.... The first is the outside of Morecambe Promenade station in 1979. The second one shows an interior view of the same date. Both pictures are from "Geograph.org.uk" and are copyrighted by Peter Whatley. However permission is granted to use them in this way. I hope that more than just me can see them. Regards Trev..

I can see them Trev. Oh the memories that brings back. It's hard to believe the railway ran right down to there when you look at what is in that area now. However, I am so glad they didn't totally demolish the station building and we have The Platform, tourist information and pub making good use of the space - not to mention KFC although I'd prefer not to mention KFC ;D My daughter works part time in our local one and we are all getting far too fond of finger licking chicken!

Oh, I'm glad you can see them as well. We have a KFC here, but they are not the same quality as in the UK. Hilary (OH) wanted to give them a try..... but she said she doesn't need to go again. Not to worry, plenty of eateries out here.
Regards. Trev..

I have now found some old maps of Morecambe. These two show the Midland Station, and Wards ship breakers on the jetty. Trev..
