We went to Frankie and Benny's yesterday. I go quite often with friends, but it was the first time for Mr esm. We had a thoroughly nice time. I think the bottles of wine are overpriced though, but as I had a £10 voucher, I didn't grumble too much.
I like the fact that the food is cooked to order and there are no microwave pings to be heard. The staff are very well trained and friendly and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. It's the sort of place you can go with children, a group of friends or as a couple and just relax.
Very nice music too.

I have just looked at their menu and it is perhaps a little dear for every day eating during my visit. This is more to my liking, both food and price wise....... The price = £11-75 UK pounds, and it includes a carafe of wine and a coffee as well. Trev..

Yes, I quite agree. If I was abroad - or living somewhere a little more Cosmopolitan - then I wouldn't even step inside a Frankie & Benny's. However, for a Northern Seaside Town, located in 'Rip Off Britain', it isn't bad at all. esm xx

Got to ask it Trev - what is a 'stifado' ?

A Stifado is a meaty stew with beef and baby shallot onions. The best part is the thick sauce which is made slightly sweet by the onions.

Our visit to Frankie & Bennys was nice, but what I don't understand is how the prices are hiked up so much in the evening. They even serve the same food, so how can they justify the huge price difference to their lunchtime menu?
Last week, I went there for lunch and there were five of us. We all had starters and main courses, one bottle of wine, 2 soft drinks and five coffees. The total bill came to £60.
Last night, there was just two us. We both had a starter and a main course, one bottle of wine and two coffees. The bill was £60.
I won't be going there in the evening again.

Are the portions the same size too? That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Are the portions the same size too? That doesn't make a lot of sense. The portion sizes are exactly the same. I even ordered the same things that I had for lunch last week. esm xx
