I saw on the tv yesterday (and in the Visitor) how the pies that are sold at Morecambe FC are the best ones sold at any Football Club in the country. I've never tried one. I need to track down one of these pies immediately. Are they sold at Potts Pie Shops? Or does one have to go to a football match to get hold of such a delight? esm xx

Now that sounds like something we need to check up on next time we are up that way. A good pie these days is not easy to find. There are some very grim stodgy ones around.

You want good pies? Pott's pies are good from the shop but I prefer Susan's Pies on Lancaster Road.

Beef and garlic pies sound good. I'll have to look into those. Unfortunately Coachman doesn't like garlic.

Oh no, not the North South divide creeping into the forum I am all for equality and feel that the intelligent Northerners should be treated in exactly the same way as the 'wussy' Southerners. As for pies being better in the South You can't even get gravy in most places. and speaking of beer We are going to the Black Sheep Brewery, in Masham tomorrow so who needs pies anyway?

I am an Essex girl (from Southend-On-Sea) who first moved oop to Cheshire in 1983...and then to Morecambe in 1992.
The North and the South both excel in certain things. You can't beat Southern fish and chips for example, simply because the fish and chip shops routinely serve such delights as cod roe, skate and rock eel - and of course the savaloy (but whether that is a delicacy, or even actually edible, is debatable).
However, the pies up North are a force to be reckoned with and I'm not sure the Southern ones can really compete.
esm always happy to be proved wrong xx

The chap went round all the football grounds to sample all the pies, I think it only fair that you go round all the nations chip shops and write a detailed report on each. The beauty of this little scheme is that once you have covered them all it will be time to start again.
This project should cure any obsessions you may have about fish and chips, where ever they are made.

The club caterers use Potts but that's only 2 of 6 catering outlets open on a match day. If I heard right, it was a steak pie he bought. If you ask for pie, peas 'n gravy from a club outlet you get a meat & potato pie without question.
