I'm getting more and more confused as time goes on.
I thought the Council's argument in favour of scrapping the Dome was that the Winter Gardens was going to be the be-all and the end-all of Morecambe venues. Am I missing something? Does the council want a successful WG or doesn't it?

I feel absolutely sure that the council would love to have the winter Gardens up and running. However I am not sure that they are prepared to finance it totally.

Why should they finance it at all? It's a privately owned theatre. It's like saying the council will subsidise all failing local companies. The WG Brigade turned up at the council meeting with a business plan they had literally finished writing hours before which required the Platform and Dome to be closed in order for the WG to have any chance of surviving. They have also turned down an offer from Urban Splash to advise them on the plans. Basically the WG Brigade have been promising the earth for years and delivered nothing. Now they are entirely reliant on our money to open it with the loss of council jobs to fund their private ambitions.

Well I wonder where they go from here. How long can they keep toddling along. I believe it is a listed building therefore cannot just easily be bulldozed to the ground.
It is a shame that it was allowed to get in the state that it is inside. It is certainly a problem, and a very costly one.

A problem to which local tax payers have already contributed £180K in the form of a loan written off by the council. As much as it is an historic building and I have a lot of memories of it, I'm sorry to say I don't want to see it remain in the current state much longer. Either get it open or get it flattened and let's have something else in it's place. Set them a deadline to either get the finance together or get out.

And this is supposed to be the venue which will be there when the Dome is no longer there? It's a very sad state of affairs. I love the old building and would love to see it restored back to its former glory - to say nothing of all the money that has already been spent on it but it is beginning to look like a bottomless pit.
