It's almost over for this year, but on the last Sunday of every month from April to September there has been a regular event in Grange-over-Sands with more than 50 artists displaying and selling their arts and crafts products including paintings, ornaments and jewellery. There has been face painting for the youngsters and entertainment by morris dancers.
The final event will take place on September 28th and we hope to be there. I might even buy another wooden mushroom.

It is amazing how many things like this occur up and around this area really, it's a shame it just isn't advertised very well.

That's what inspired me to want to start this forum. We miss so much. I'm hoping that people who know about such things will come along and tell us. We only found out about this event by chatting to an artist in Happy Mount Park yesterday.

I'm hoping it will be a nice day for this final event and I'll be taking my camera so hopefully will be able to add some photos. I'm not sure if anyone can see the photo album I've already uploaded. It doesn't show up on Coachman's laptop I'm not sure I really need any more wooden mushrooms but I do love the two I bought in Happy Mount Park. They fit the odd little corner of our odd little fireplace perfectly.

O.M.G!!!! We (Willow and I) drove up to Grange-over-sand today, parked the car and walked along the prom-----------There was nothing going on, all was quiet except for the occasional dog and its owner enjoying a stroll. 80 stalls? couldn't see even one
Willow says: " but it definately said on the flyer that the Prom Art was on EVERY last Sunday from April through to September" Then the penny dropped, it was the 21st and there was another Sunday to come in September, WE WERE A WEEK EARLY!!!! 120 mile round trip for nothing!
Actually, it was a really enjoyable day. We escaped our 2 teenage daughters and really enjoyed wandering round Grange, what a lovely town. The shops, we found to be quaint, expensive but the quality high, we ate in a lovely small restaurant, the name of which escapes both of us but Willow had rabbit pie which is one of her favourite meals while I went for a traditional topside of beef roast. Vegetables? Peas, Sweetcorn, Cabbage, Caulie and Carrots all cooked to perfection ;D They served Morecambe shrimps for starters and we finished the meal off with a lemon meringue that would have put Mount Everest in the shade.
We finished off the day by calling in at Morecambe for an hour. I don't know if we can make it next weekend as my job involves a fair amount of weekend work but if at all possible, we will be there for the last Prom Art of the year ;D

I think the cafe was called 'The Coffee Pot'. It has two fairly small rooms but both overlook the bay and we had a nice table next to the window with a lovely view. I can definitely recommend the rabbit pie. As for the 'Prom Art' and it being the wrong week I blame Coachman for mentioning that he'd got the day off work THIS weekend! ;D I have temporarily abandoned the photo album for now as I have discovered it wasn't supported on IE.

Well we did actually make it to the real Prom Art this weekend. It was a beautifully sunny day, ideal for a stroll along the prom. I didn't actually buy any more wooden mushrooms but I did buy some wooden fruit, and a wooden candle holder. I just love the smoothness of beautifully turned wood and some of the pieces have the most beautiful grain and markings. My favourite is olive wood, followed closely by yew. Amongst the beautiful artwork on display there were also stall selling hand crafted jewellery. And I also found one with smelly soap and bath bombs, bought some soap fragranced with aniseed and charcoal!

There were such a lot of stalls. We had to stop off for a 'hot chocolate break' Great view over the bay from inside this little cafe.

Again some brilliant pictures, and a picture paints a thousand words so they say. The most remarkable thing in the pics for me, is the GRASS. It will be over 3 years since I was there and it seems to be taking over.

The grass is Spartina Grass which as been a major problem at Grange for many years. The council have tried many different ways of trying to control it to no avail and now seem to have given up. Since the building of the new sea defences at Morecambe there a few little patches of it at this side of the bay. The biggest is near the Battery. Dave
