How do you know when the tide is going to be in or out, how long is the tide in/out for, and does it happen at certain times or is it random?

Hi Chelle. The tides at Morecambe are about the same as Heysham, which you can see if you click on this link.. www.pol.ac.uk/ntslf/tides/?port=0050If it looks a bit technical it shows that high tide next week is from about 9-00am till about lunchtime. You can see that the tide time is different each day and also the height differs as well. Next week the tides are fairly high so they should be quite near the sea wall. Best wishes. Trev..

I love watching the tide change up the river Keer. One minute the ducks are floating upstream and then the same ducks come floating back downstream again! We have often stood on a little wooden bridge to watch them.

You can buy a Tide Timetable for about £1.50 from any post office in the area. It is small enough to fit inside a handbag or pocket and is invaluable. I use mine constantly.

Until I started working with ships at Heysham Harbour, I had only noticed the tide on the shore at Morecambe and other resorts. I would sometimes be at the harbour at 6-00 in a morning. If it was high tide I would have to drive uphill along the vehicle ramp to the ship. If I then went back 6 hours later to the Ben -my-Chree at lunch time it would be a downhill drive to the ship at low tide. The difference in a very high tide and a very low tide is almost 30ft and it is amazing to see the difference.

With the concern over people getting caught out with the tides, wouldn't it be a good idea if the tables at the ex-toilet black on Marine Road were updated to 2009! I noticed it last week when I was down.

Hi Andrew. You are of course quite correct, that if they are going to show a tide table it ought to be an up to date one.
Therefore I have just sent the following Email to L C C........
Good day to you.
I wonder if you can pass an item of concern on to the correct department. Although I am in Cyprus, I am a member of a Morecambe Bay website.
One of our members has today posted the following letter..........
Quote. "With the concern over people getting caught out with the tides, wouldn't it be a good idea if the tables at the ex-toilet black on Marine Road were updated to 2009! I noticed it last week when I was down." Unquote.
The member certainly has a valid point. I hope that something can be done to correct the situation.
Regards. Trevor.
I have had an Automated reply to say that my letter has been received. I will post any reply that I receive from a staff member.
Regards. Trev..

Well done Trev. Sometimes we think about things which 'ought to be done' but never actually get around to doing something about it.

Thank you for that. I hope to be back in town in the next few weeks, I don't get down as often as I used to because of my work, but I'll check if no one else does when I am.
