I was asked about this today, or whether it would actually ever happen, and the last news article I could find was dated 2002! Does anyone know if anyone has discussed the possibility of it since seven years ago?

Hi Andrew. I am sure that I have seen within the last 6 months that broad permission has been granted for a third station to be built at Heysham. However I also think that permission has been granted for a number of sites throughout the UK. This does not mean that this permission may be utilised and a station actually built.
Below is part of an article in 'The Visitor' 12 months ago.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Published Date: 07 March 2008 BRITISH Energy, owner and operator of Heysham nuclear power stations, is holding a meeting to talk about the potential for building a new station at Heysham. The meeting will allow the community to discuss the processes for site selection and reactor designs, and hear more about the Government's response to the public consultation held last year.
At the beginning of the year the UK Government outlined its energy plans in which it stated that nuclear power should continue to make a contribution to security of electricity supply and helping to combat climate change in the UK.
British Energy aims to be at the heart of any new nuclear build and has already started assessment work on a number of UK sites, including Heysham. This is in order to develop knowledge of the sites and the environmental and economic impact of new nuclear build in these areas. "

Thank you for that. I did a quick Google search last night and the first story was from 2002. I didn't have time to look very far. The same friend yesterday asked me for information about how to promote Morecambe from outwith the area so I'll have a look in tourist information offices over the next few days to see if anywhere promotes the town.
