Maybe someone else will come along with a better project - something which will attract visitors?

I thought that a couple of years back the council had served a notice to the owners (Morrisons), to clean up the area. Are there still hoardings along the front of the Polo tower? Is the highest pile of gravel in Morecambe still there. Have the council no teeth at all.? Maybe I know the answer to that, when we can all see the state of some of the seafront shops and the properties above them!!

It is a shame about the old Frontierland site but not unexpected in the present financial circumstances the country is in.
The one good thing about it is that hopefully the Urban Splash redevelopment plans for the Central promenade will be shelved for some time.
For all its faults I would rather it remain as it is than have a series of tower blocks there.

Good afternoon Keith. Thanks for taking all those pictures for us. After my last posting I went to look at the site on my favourite maps.live.com Although the views were a few years old it did not look too bad from the air. BUT your pictures tell the true story. I assume that the bar and the amusements are still running. It is a shame that a prime promenade site is not being developed. But you would have to be very brave in this day and age to commit a lot of funds to what may a risky venture whatever is planned there. Regards. Trev..

Yes the bar is still running but I don't know what it is like. It was awful when we went in over 4 years ago so what it is like now I wouldn't like to say. I know it used to be a popular venue in the late 90's (1990's not 1890's) when a friend of mine from Chorley was the DJ there. The bar worked well alongside the amusement park but went pear shaped when the amusement park closed. It would make a more appropriate place for the fairground to go in Summer rather than by the side of the Dome, at the moment it is just derelict.
On your picture, the log flume is still there - I wonder if it has been stolen bit by bit?

Let Urban Splash build there tower blocks on Frontierland and leave the seaward side of the promenade alone.

Now that is a good idea. If they built the front part up a bit they could end up with a sea front development if this global warming continues. On that subject, if the earth warms up, the sea will warm up and melt the icebergs, so more water will evaporate, so there will be more clouds, which will mean more rain but the clouds will block out the sunshine so the earth will cool down and the icebergs will reform and then the cycle will start all over again. These fluctuations in the earth's temperature were happening long before we began pumping all sorts of stuff into the atmosphere. We should be more worried about the earth collapsing in on itself after we have removed all the gas and oil.

If they built the blocks of flats (because that's what they are) on the old Frontierland site, then it would use up some derelict land. They would still have a sea view. I cannot see a snag in this idea, except perhaps that the land is not owned by the council. Regards. Trev..

In the present economic climate I think Morrisons may be willing to sell.....but would Urban Splash want to build there rather than the prime site of the Central Promenade.....I think not

I think not as well. I think you have hit the nail on the head when you use the word 'Prime'. Plus of course according to previous posts they have been 'promised' the central promenade site.
I hope that the (nameless) Builder who has gone 'bust' has not had any council funds 'up front'

I doubt it with Urban Splash, from what I have been told they Always get what they want and if things aren't working out afterwards they either Close down a Job or leave untill things improve, from what I've been told they have done a lot of old Mills etc around Manchester with the intent of selling them of as luxry flats, but several Jobs went slow so they just left the place and came back a few months later. I would not be supprised if the Midland wasn't re-designed as Flats and if the Hotel dosen't make it's money they will sell it of as seperate units Ian

I don't think we are being told the whole truth about US and their business model. I have always been a sceptic when it comes to the accounts of big companies. They announced redundancies last September before the global bank mess had been fully realised. As far back as 2007, the last available accounts, their figures look a bit worrying.
How can they commit over 6 times their turnover?
They could be stuck with a lot of property which they can't sell. Do they have the resources to weather the storm. As for any further development taking place in Morecambe, in the near future, I would not hold your breath. There looks to be quicker retuns to be had in many of their other developments.

I can't imagine anything much happening for a while now with the economy bing the way it is. No point in building flats nobody can afford to buy, or shops when existing shops are going out of business. It does seem a shame that a whole derelict site is sitting there doing nothing though and yet there are plans to develop the prom which I would much rather see left alone.
