When I lived in Sweden in the 90's, I people with a SKY box (there was no free BBC etc then) handled it like this :
*Get UK relative in place with mobile phone. *Get UK relative to ring SKY on the landline and the o'seas SKY box man on the mobile *When SKY man says "put card in" message is relayed by mobile phone *Same for any other instructions
This gets round the SKY office recognising a foreign phone number.

Hi Peter. I know that it is illegal for SKY to sell their services outside of the UK. If you tell them that you are calling from Spain, France or for that matter Cyprus, then I believe that they would have nothing to do with you at all. When you get through on their customer service line they start by telling you that the call will be recorded, so you just have to be careful what you say to them. I have used my Cyprus mobile on the 4 occasions that I have spoken with them, and no one has asked where I am calling from. The recorded announcement at the beginning asks.... What is your full telephone number including STD code. Well obviously you give them the one belonging to your UK registered address. They then ask for the Postcode, and your date of birth. I have had no problems in respect of anyone wanting to know where I am with my mobile phone. I am still awaiting my card to arrive in Cyprus. It was sent by whatever system needs a signature at this end, so I believe tthat would be recorded delivery. But I am still waiting but it is early days yet.
Regards. Trev..

Wel thae Saga goes on and on and on...... get the Idea. The card which our daughter sent from UK arrived yesterday. I put it in the box but it did not work. I tried again this morning still not working. So I rang SKY. He checked from his end and said..... "there is a problem with the card and I will need to send you a new one" He then went on to say that it may be the 'card reader' in the machine that is wrong. I told him that it all worked alright until they turned the old blue card off. After the phone call I thought he maybe had a point so I replaced my box with a spare one. It is all just the same in that box as well. I will just have to wait and wait again. Cheesed off Trev..

Saga ;D ;D You need a holiday somewhere sunny - do you know any where like that? I still don't see the problem with location, you have a valid card so who is objecting to you receiving the transmissions. Have the communists taken over again Trev?

It's something to do with the licence that SKY have they are not allowed to broadcast outside of the British isles I believe. I do know somewhere sunny and o course at this time of year it is just about the right temperature here, and o course during spring as well. I will just have to type away on my computer keyboard instead of watching too much TV. We can still get all the main (Free to view) satellite channels though. Cheers. Trev..
