Our fine, upstanding Government have decided, in their wisdom (stupidity) to change the rate of VAT. many of my customer's computerised tills need to reflect this change by Monday morning. It could be a late night, getting them all working. I wonder which numpty thought that this would make a difference? A 2.5% reduction in the price of a cabbage is not going to make a difference to retail prices. Cut the tax on fuel if you want to make a difference I can't help feeling that the country is being run by a bunch of idiots who just do not have a clue what happens in the real world. They seem to be totally out of touch with the way things work. I blame the highly educated graduates churned out by the education system who have qualifications coming out of their ears but in reality are as thick as several short pieces of timber when it comes to common sense. The same people are now educating the next generation of decision makers, God help us!

Keith I agree with all that you have said in your post. 2.5% off the VAT of almost anything you can think of is not going to make you go out and buy it. If they had reduced the fuel tax by 2.5% that would have helped most people. What a state the place is in at the moment, with NO signs of a let up.

I think VAT cut to 10% for maybe 6 months would have been more beneficial

This is just the government trying to look like they are doing something constructive.

I try not to vote for politicians but even without my help one of them always gets in and carries on the good work in the same fashion.

A 2.5% reduction in the price of a cabbage is not going to make a difference to retail prices. Have they put VAT on basic foods now ? I've been away about 20 yrs, but it was zero when I left. I think they put it on fuel oil, too. Do they have VAT on electricity & gas now ? Peter

Oh those were the days ........... when they told us VAT was only for 'luxury items'. Nowadays everything must be a luxury.
