Hi All. The company that owns Hitchens (The Wallgate Group plc) has gone into administration. Out of 13 stores it has in the midlands & north only 2 will survive, will Morecambe be one ?

Well I really hope that the morecambe store will survive. Firstly for the staff, and also for the reason that you would not really want a store in that prominent position to be all shuttered up.
Time will tell, we will have to keep our fingers crossed.

I hope the Morecambe store survives too not only for the reasons Trev gave but also because when we are up there we always have a look in there and have often bought things. I would miss it. It always seems to be very busy whenever I've been in. I suppose it's just another casualty of the difficult times we're in at present. Am I mistaken or did it used to have some connection with Littlewoods?

What a shame, I do hope that Morecambe's store will stay open. Its a great place for a bargain and as Willow said it always seems to be busy. I seem to remember that it has a connection with Littlewoods too!

I'd hate to see a store close but Hitchens is just a tat shop.

According to todays Visitor the Morecambe store is safe. IT is one of five taken over by Synergy Retail Ltd headed by former Hitchens boss John Taylor.

Oh good That means we can still go looking for bargains there. Mind you we have a track record of having to take things back too. ;D

With Woollies having gone it's good news that Hitchens will be OK. As the report says, with other stores going into liquidation it gives them opportunity to buy up the stock.
