I certainly do want a look at the photos. I will have a look this evening and will add any comments to this posting. By the way, you seem to get a good number of holidays with that job of yours. Only joking, enjoy as many trips as you can manage.
ADDED. I have looked at all the photos now, and as usual it was a pleasurable experience. Lots of the picture feature the canals and I was struck by the neatness of the areas with the exception of one basin. I didn't know that you were an Eddie Stobart spotter, but I see that you managed to ' bag ' two!!. It seemed like a classy restaurant that you dined in, and I was impressed by the ice creams on the large plate. On one of the pictures you say that the canals are in 'the heart of Manchester's bustling city centre' ........ But there was a marked lack of people in most of your photos, even in the city centre.
I was sad to see, or not to see as it happened, any TRAMS in your pictures. And one of you pictures had a building with the words Mersey Ashto... on it. Do you know what that was about??
And finally my Dad was a window cleaner in Morecambe and Heysham, but I could never imagine him swinging on the end of a rope.
Thanks again. Trev..

We are indeed fortunate to be able to nip off and have trips away but we probably spend less on a number of breaks than many people spend on their annual pilgrimage to the sun. Mrs keef is a keen bargain hunter and we enjoy good quality but at the right price.
We walked round most of the areas of Manchester but avoided the bustling streets as much as possible. It was unavoidable at times but me and crowds don't mix well. The canal passes unseen through a lot of the city and quite a lot of it was being cleaned up by, what we suspect were people carrying out community service hence no photographs. I am not sure but thought better of taking photos of them just in case. The tow path is a quiet place and areas such as Piccadilly Tunnel are places to avoid during the hours of darkness.
We saw lots of trams but didn't take any pictures, we were in Manchester at a similar time last year, with the reluctant hiker and I took quite a few photos of them then. I thought I had put those pictures on my website but they are conspicuous by their absence.
I think the 'Mersey Ashto' reference is something to do with the Ashton Canal which branches off the Rochdale Canal in that area. Any more than that I cannot tell you.
The window cleaner caught my eye and the fact he was dangling from the building was secondary to my concern that his ropes were dangling into a cordonned off area by the side of the building and there was nobody spotting for him on the ground, I woulf have thought that Elf and Safe Tea rules were being broken there. When we used cherry pickers, in a former life, you always had to have a spotter on the ground.

Thanks Keith for adding more pictures to the album, including the Trams.
And I agree that it is no good slumming it if you can have quality at the right price.

We went by train from Bare Lane - Lancaster - Piccadilly and return for very little money, one of the benefits of booking well in advance. We had reserved seats which was fortunate as the train was very crowded. The journey is about an hour so you don't want to be standing for all that time. The hotel we stayed in. The Days on Sackville Street, was one we have been to before and again, it pays to shop around. Room rates are halved if you book via one of those booking websites rather than directly with the hotel. Rooms are quite small but as we only sleep in there that is never a problem. The breakfast and service there is fantastic too so why go anywhere else? The greatest expense were the show tickets which came with a ridiculous booking fee. Michael McIntyre actually commented on it during his show, asking if anyone knew who the booking fee went to. Walking round, as we like to do, is cheap enough, Mr & Mrs Kleen, who were with us on this trip, are not too keen but we did it anyway. They would prefer to stroll between expensive coffee shops and watch the world go by whilst sipping lattes.

I too believe in using Hotel booking sites. Unfortunately it is always for other people on Cyprus Forums. I don't do an actual booking but I do find cheap accommodation for them.
Trivago is one that I have recently used, but I have not tried the UK hotels.
Cheers. Trev..
