The old bus shelter / toilet blocks are vanishing from the promenade. Why ? This one near HMP has completely disappeared : goo.gl/maps/Kb1GX

If as you say it is no longer there then that is surprising. I would have thought it would have been well used.
I seem to remember the next one going into Morecambe was at the top of Thornton road. That's probably gone as well.

It is down to cost cutting, the Council made the decision a few years back to close as many as possible. Even the ones at Sunderland Point were under threat and may still be.

Festival Market bogs are now pay as you pee. There are a couple of free cubicles outside that cafe at The Battery, and that's about it for the full length of the prom. Even the freebies in HMP are payp The Battery Hotel is boarded up, and looking v.sad and neglected. At least the sculpture of Commander Forsberg has been moved from Sandylands car park to a much more visible point on the prom opposite Regent Road. Trouble with that is, it'll soon get vandalised. I think The Midland is already in need of a paint job. But on the bright side, the Ranch House has had a lick of paint, and Upstairs Downstairs has re-opened as The Board Walk.

Commander Forsberg usually asked my dad and PJ to row the dinghy alongside him on the cross bay swims. All the other swimmers were directed by their rowers, CF's dinghy was just instructed to follow him. I was usually on the trawler that accompanied the dinghys to pick up anyone that retired from the swim, etc.
