What a shame to see all those places boarded up. I would have thought that the ones near the Arndale entrance could have had a lick of paint on them. I did wonder if the ones with the blue boarding in Euston road were like that because the hotel rooms were behind them and a view out was not needed???..
I am not sure what to think about the new store opening. I see that the interest rate is almost 30%. I remember that when I first got married there was Hire purchase. But nowadays it seems that people must have the newest Gizmo or Gadget. I would bet that if took a poll of the unemployed youth, you would be hard pressed to find one without a phone that could used the internet.
People are spending money that the country does not have.

The hotel is on the upper levels. The ground floor was designed to have shop units, but they haven't been able to find tenants. There are several empty units in the Arndale centre itself, too.
All very sad ...

Retail in many towns is being heavily affected by the internet. The only time I go into town these days and that is generally to go to the bank.
I was talking to a young family member about mobile phones, she was most enthusiastic because she gets 'free' internet access, 'free' calls to other mobiles and 'free' texts. In fact she gets nothing free, she has to shell out over £60 per month, not my idea of free.

It absolutely amazes me that young people in particular can afford all these thing whether they are gainfully employed or unemployed. When I was a lad I used to jog into Morecambe to save the bus fare from Four lane ends. Trev..

It's just the same here in Accy. Half the town is boarded up and the other half is pound shops and charity shops. When the Queen came a few weeks ago she said it was a lovely little town! Don't know what she managed to see - all she did was go in the market hall which was closed to the public for the duration and walk next door to the Town Hall! The market hall has been refurbished which means half the stalls have gone, but the balcony shops have been given a new lease of life - all decorated and accessed by a wide sweeping staircase or lift - but most of those are empty!
I think it's just a sign of the times. Sad though.

I have put my bid in to have our drive done but I haven't heard back from them yet, I expect they are busy organising all the benefits from the Olympics the town is seeing. The new bus station building is taking shape and should really benefit the town. P.S. My mistake, it is a workman's hut, sorry
