Not a clue Dave but I hope Edith has a good coat if you have left her up there.
I was trying to think what it could be, never mind where. Some sort of observation tower but wouldn't offer much protection from marauding Scots or intrepid Wainright-ites. A shepherd's hut but why the railings? I was trying to read the sign on the top but the writing is too small.

I was thinking along the lines of a Jubilee Tower but the only Jubilee Tower I can think of doesn't look like that.

Oh it's that travellers shelter place up on Hampsfell!
I remember climbing up there donkeys years ago with my cousin but haven't even thought about it since. All I could think of was the Jubillee Tower but as soon as you said hospice it jangled the brain cells!
