During our family holidays many moons ago, we tended to stay at guest houses (private hotels as they portrayed themselves) in West End Road - or Sea View Parade as it was also known. The ones I remember are the Sea Lynn, Trevelyan, Gir-van and Brooklands. On a couple of occasions we booked into the Ballochmyle in Skipton Street. I was wondering if any of these places are still operating as guest houses and if so, are they worthy of a return visit many years down the line?

I can vouch for The Trevelyan. I've stayed there at least once a year for the last 5 years.
Mark & Wendy are absolute diamonds!

I don't think West End Road is quite what it was many years ago. There seemed to be a lot of really nice B & Bs and 'holiday flatlets' on there in those days - I remember a friend of my mother had a place on Sea View Parade but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. It was on the left hand side going up, just round the bend almost opposite the side road where you could see the fairground.
