Hello. I've just been made aware of this site by Shrimpvoices. I was born and edukated up the Lune, and have been more of less exiled from the area since I joined the RN in 1971. Me and the missus did flirt with Morecambe for just over a year in 2006/7 when we decided to return to UK from Cyprus. During that 16 months we lived on Princes Avenue in Bare, and then on Ashton Road. We love the area but we didn't really settle, and were drawn back to where our children were brought up, and still live, in the Pompey area. More to follow. Come on you Dollies Shrimps Peter

Welcome to Bayweb Peter. I didn't end up in Morecambe as a result of a master plan but now I am here I love it. The idea of this site is to bring together locals and those who are not so local, so enjoy yourself and we look forward to your input. It has been suggested that this site is made a football free zone so you may be issued a yellow card for any transgressions

Welcome to BayWeb Pete. Another exile in Cyprus? Is there something in the air which attracts ex-Bay dwellers over there?

Thanks all. Trev, thanks for spotting my error. A crescent is far posher than an avenue. We lived above the Spar Shop, and opposite the then recently opened Potts Pies. Though regarding the latter we prefer Thirlwell's

I started life on Sun Street in Lancaster. Our house, No.13 is now an hairdressers. My grandad was a well known fruit merchant and known locally as The Banana King. I have 3 brothers, and we all went to Dallas Road skool, by far the bestest skool south of the Lune.

I realise. looking back at that. that it doesn't sound quite right. What I mean was an ex-Bay-pat who was enticed over to Cyprus even though you're not there now.

My early memories of Morcambe are still fairly clear. Living in Lancaster we normally got the electric train from Green Ayre to the Promenade Station. It was a lovely trip, clikerty-click, clickerty-click, and there in no-time I preferred the train because when you got off you were straight into the thick of it. Whereas the bus to Euston Road meant what at the time seemed like a boring walk to the prom. I really enjoyed crabbing in the pool by the Moby Dick, and spent hours down there. I was there when Marineland opened, and can remember speaking to the actress off Coronation Street at the opening ceremony. I think it was Elsie Tanner's daughter. In the gardens to the side of Morecambe Baths was a sunken area with kids rides and a crazy golf course. The golf was good fun and the obstacles challenging. Anyone remember that machine at the train the station, where for 1d you could print up to 20 letters on a thin lead strip? I think that helped with my spellink!

I used to go crabbing in that area off the Stone Jetty too where the Moby Dick was. We used to break open mussels and dangle them from lengths of string. As we're about the same age we were quite probably there at the same time doing exactly the same thing. I remember it being a very popular pass time. Oh I'd forgotten all about that label making machine at the station until you mentioned it. It was like a metal version of a Dymo machine wasn't it?

Who was it who stood on the Moby Dick? Some actor wasn't it? No real blood shed. Unlike where I live now, HMS VICTORY, Lord Nelson, and all that.
I'm glad you can recall the lable making machine. Goodness knows what I churned out!

Gregory Peck?
I know one thing I churned out on that machine because I still have it somewhere in the house. It says "ALICE JONES" which was my mother's name ;D
