Walk Date: 9th June 2011 Walk Area: South Cumbria
A walk in the south of the county starting at Helsington Church on the Kendal – Brigsteer Road. The starting point was also the highest point of the walk and our first port of call was the National Trust owned Sizergh Castle which dates back to the 12th Century. After a walk around the gardens where we found a Lady’s Slipper Orchid we made our way to the top of Levens Park and then to Levens Hall where refreshments were taken on board. From there it was across the field paths to Levens Village and then upwards back to the car. A walk full of interest and local history. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall are well worth a visit if in the area. Pictures from the day and a full route description are now available to view on the website. Regards, Dave
