Old Regal Cinema Lancaster - plans

Ever since it closed down with the opening of the new multi-screen Vue cinema the old Regal has stood derelict and has become quite an eyesore. There are now plans afoot to demolish the whole thing and in its place erect a 6 story building which will have retail premises on the ground and first floors and a 150 bedroom hotel on the 4 upper floors.

Sounds impressive and I see no reason why the plans should not go ahead unless parking could be seen as a problem although there is a small car park not far from there but that is usually full whenever we want to park. I presume the planners have thought of that.

The newer Vue cinema is excellent apart from one thing, I do wish they would sell Baskin Robins ice cream instead of that Ben and Jerrys.

It was on the radio this morning Keith. Tony Livesey's breakfast show on Radio Lancashire. I just catch snippets of it between getting the kids up and out.

Is that the VUE in Lancaster?

Yes that's the one, sort of hidden away in the middle of a block that you get to down an alley. There's a Vue in Blackburn but the have Baskin Robins there. Mond you there's a Vue in Accy and they don't even have any ice cream there!

I would have thought that ice cream would have caught on in Accy by now.

There will be the usual hue and cry about all the old buildings being replaced by modern ones but Lancaster needs some regeneration and leaving old buildings to rot away is not good for the city. Old cinema buildings can be converted for other uses but their internal layout usually makes this a very difficult task. Sometimes it is just easier to knock the building down and start again.

There are grand plans, in the pipeline, to change the centre of Lancaster including ambitious plans to change the layout of the roads.

The layout of the roads could do with a change, particularly roads between Lancaster and Morecambe/Carnforth and points north. It's a ruddy nightmare at times.

Ice Cream in Accrington? ;D Do they know how to keep it frozen?

The way the weather has been lately we wouldn't have much trouble keeping it frozen!

They do sell ice cream at Accy Vue but it's in those little Hagen Daaz tubs like they have at Morecambe Appollo. I like the stuff served up out of a freezer with lost of choices and you can have 2 or 3 different flavours in one tub or cone.
