Given the destruction of the Dome and the running saga of the will they wont they renovate the Winter Gardens. Can anyone shed any light on what the authorities have planned for summer 2011? last years i do like to be beside the seaside was excellent, vintage cars, a polar bear and a journey inside a whale..........
Can this be bettered in 2011?
We need a resurgence in Morecambe not......just day trippers but short breaks weekend which might, hopefully lead to week if not fortnight stayers............

For a web site minute'd to be closed down, www.morecambe.gov.uk has recent council minutes where you'll find the latest discussions about summer plans.

What a strange statement - I would not have known about the Top 20 if I hadn't read it here so how do they expect people from outside the area to know what is happening in Morecambe.
Promotion is the key to the success of any event and the local Council have proved themselves to be incapable of even creating a simple informative website let alone a 'publicity machine'.

Talks could also be held between the two local authorities about bringing back a ‘Festival of Light and Water’-style big outdoor concert eventI wonder where they got that idea from

Not much point in promoting anything unless it is advertised before the event in an effective manner.

That was exactly the point I tried to make last year when we were up there. There are things we would travel to see if only we knew about them but how are we supposed to know about them from down here in Accy when they are not promoted adequately? The reply I got was that I should google for information and that they did put a few posters up in the town!!! Grrrrr! Then one thing we did actually go out of our way to travel to Morecambe for - and which we had bought advance tickets for- and which was supposed to be an all-day spectacular at the Winter Gardens - was promoted so badly that it fizzled out to a non-event of an evening in a back street pub!

An email mailing list would be a cost effective means of advertising but that would mean all the splintered factions of council working together and anything which is for the good of Morecambe appears to take second place to petty bickering and political points scoring.

That problem doesn't seem to be exclusive to Morecambe but it is such a shame.
If they'd just get that flippin website up and running properly it wouldn't be so bad.
