It's become a fairly traditional thing with Coachman and myself to make a trip over Kirkstone Pass sometime over the Christmas/New Year period and call in at the Kirkstone Inn for a hot chocolate. Last year we didn't make it because of the weather conditions, got half way up and had to turn back.
What do you think our chances are this year?

Go for it! Take your tent and stay a few nights on the camp site - what's up with you, it is only a bit of snow

Come on now Keith, we're not that mad. There may have to be a slight change of plan this year though because there is a strong possibility we will have visitors.

I hope you can make your trip up to the Skirkstone Pass this year its a great day out,its quite a long time since I was there. They used to have a diesel generator next door to the pub for there electricity supply , and a good roaring coal fire with a good pint of real ale and some good grub to. I use to have a old x/military Land Rover to get about in them days. There is a few 1 in 4 gradients on the road .Have a look at the interesting web site. www.kirkstonepassinn.com

Yes you are - learn to live with it Those 1 in 4 hills were enough to bring me to a grinding halt when cycling up there with all the camping gear on the bike. I climbed it a few times with an empty bike just to prove a point.

We have actually been barmy enough to tackle Hardknott Pass at this time of year too but never again. That was dodgy!
