Hi everyone. I'm Jason, been in Morecambe 3 years - love it! Previously in Northamptonshire, right in the middle of England, all the oxygen had been breathed in by the time the air got to us. Different here!! My partner suggested we move here, she was born here and her family live around the area. I think I'm more settled here than she is what with the model railway club down Schola Green Lane and playing the drums again and taking the dog up on Torrisholme Barrow. Well we went round the green light on the end of the Stone Jetty tonight. Perfect....

Good morning Jason, and welcome to the forum. I am glad that you like Morecambe and of course it does have a lot going for it, together with the outlaying areas. I see that your wife is from Morecambe, so it is quite possible that someone on here will know her. I am a bit long in the tooth now and out in Cyprus. But until we moved almost 4 years ago I had lived in the Morecambe area all my life.
Do join in with your views on whatever we may be discussing, including my 'Trev in Cyprus' pages.
All the best. Trev..
EDIT... I see you have joined in. ;D

Thanks for the welcome. Bondee, I visited Morecambe to see the wife's family for several years before we moved up here. Initially I thought it curious that her Morecambe accent got thicker as we motored up the M6, complete with new words like ginnel and snicket!? I knew I was going to like it, coming back from my worldly-goods container at Heysham one day, the bus shelter on the prom had a billboard ad for a soft chewing gum with the slogan 'Softer than a Southerner drinking Shandy'....

;D You should have a lot in common with Coachman. He's a southerner too just gettng to grips with a foreign land full of ginnels and snickets.

It's a family thing for me too, Jason. I'm the oldest of the first generation not born in the area. I first visited Morecambe about 5 years ago when we gave my grandad a long weekend in the area for his birthday so he could see how much it had changed in the 50-odd years since he left. I've been back every year ever since! Excuse the soft "doesn't even drink shandy" Southerner, Willow, but what are ginnels and snickets? I would ask my grandad, but I can't find him at the moment. I think he's pottering about in the garden.

"ginnels and snickets?" are alleyways sometimes at the back of property or even a tunnel between terraced houses.
