On Saturday night, we were treated to a firework display on the Stone Jetty but rather than mingle with the masses we took ourselves off to Scalestones Point with a view to getting some photos of the fireworks but also to get the Cupid and Child artwork in the shot. I wasn't sure if the idea would work but at the same time I could get some night shots of the artwork so all would not be lost. After being acosted by the local police, asking what I was doing (they couldn't see the camera, low down on the tripod), I did some experimenting with the passing traffic. And had a play with my very bright flash on the camera. Shortly before the fireworks were due to start (9pm.) We were joined by another couple who had the same idea, of getting the Cupid and Child artwork in some photos, with the fireworks in the distance I must say that the experiment was useful but not a great success, mainly down to the camera moving a lot on the tripod in the strong wind. This photo is acceptable but by no means a masterpiece. The whole effort was not in vain however as we introduced ourselves to the other couple, as we civilised Morecambe folk do, and it turns out that we had the pleasure of meeting the creator of the very scupture we had come to photograph, Shane Johnstone, so I took the opportunity to get a photo of the man himself with his creation.

I can see what you mean about the wind moving the tripod. There is a movement shown on one of the pictures. but the idea was good.. You were fortunate to meet up with Shane Johnstone. If I remember rightly there was some controversy between him and the council. I think it roughly was pay a fee for it staying or it will be knocked down. I am glad to see that it is still standing.

I set the camera at 8 seconds exposure to capture the fireworks, which worked well but the foreground was blurred, will use a tripod concreted into the floor next time.
