I was down on the prom twice today to get some photos of the Jubilee Street Party. The first visit was in the pouring rain, around ten o'clock before the crowds arrived and then after dinner when it had dried up a bit. It was still drizzling and windy until mid afternoon. I have put all the photos on here www.studiosoft.co.uk/cgi-bin/makepage.cgi?call=seekword&word=JUBILEE

I will have a look at the pictures later in the evening Keith. But what a shame that the weather wasn't more obliging both in Morecambe and in London.

I have had time now to look at all the pictures that you took Keith.
Firstly thanks for taking the time to go out at least twice I assume to collect all those views. Just like the TV presentation it was a shame that the rain had to put a dampener on proceedings.
A number of things surprised me..... The first one was the number of tables stretched out. I never knew the council (I assume) had so many tables available. At first I thought three pounds for a deckchair a bit steep. But maybe not for the full day.
The grass near the Midland hotel looks a bit of a mess.
And you nearly caught me out with the row of cottages, but of course it is Lord street.
Thanks again for your trouble today and I hope that you and your family also enjoyed the day.
Cheers. Trev..

The tables were hired in from a company, according to the labels on them. I have a video of the tables running from Eric Morecambe to Frontierland. I have to render it and then stick it on You Tube.
Probably tomorrow.

I wasn't able to do what I had planned with the tables, due to the heavy rain so I did this instead. I have put the video on You Tube but it is not as smooth as it would have been. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqlb4tQS_dU

I hadn't noticed him raising his glass to me until I edited the pictures. I would have taken a lot more on the day but it was raining quite hard.

Morecambe claims longest street party
Published on Wednesday 6 June 2012 14:15
THOUSANDS braved the bad weather to line Morecambe seafront across 550 tables and celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.
And although the aimed-for world record for the longest street party in history was out of reach, organisers Morecambe Town Council were still claiming the longest of the diamond jubilee weekend.
Some of the national papers said the Berkshire villages of Goring and Streatley had made this claim, but their party was only 480 tables long.
The promenade party on Sunday stretched from Highfield Crescent past the Midland and the Eric statue, finishing at the inshore lifeboat station by Clark Street.
“We’re really pleased and grateful that so many people turned out in such bad conditions and showed the British spirit,” said Coun Tricia Heath.
“The rain didn’t seem to stop people from singing and enjoying themselves.”
Tables were set up as early as 7.30am and the party went on until around 1.30pm.
The rain meant much of the planned programme of live outdoor entertainment had to be abandoned, some pre-booked tables were empty and many party-goers had to duck indoors during the height of the downpour.
But live music still went ahead inside the Winter Gardens theatre and at the Platform’s country music event.
