We had a trip to Brockholes Nature Reserve, nr Preston yesterday and it turned out to be a superb day. Here are few pics from the day and a mystery picture at the end. There wasn't a lot of the feathered wildlife about as they appeared to be hiding from the blazing sun. There is always plenty more to see around you if you take the time to look. I just can't resist dandelion clocks in the sunlight. I waited ages but this blue dragonfly would not open it's wings for me. This is the mystery, what is it photo. The 3 wires go across the river to near the school on the other side. The top wire is fixed and the bottom 2 are on a pully mechanism. I have seen these before on canoe slalom courses to hang the poles from but as it is the only one, that would make for a particularly poor slalom course. The river is to calm here for it to be of any challenge to experts. Other possibilities are:- It would make a great washing line. Is it for a mini chair lift?

Just caught up with all these pictures Keith. I enjoyed perusing them very much and although I have heard of Brockholes, I never knew it was so big a complex. Cheers. Trev..

Ah Trevor, thought you had emigrated It will take a few years for Brockholes to get established but once the reeds are growing, there should be an increase in air traffic. Their biggest problem appear to be vandalism, 1 hide has already been burnt out and the others have had windows broken and doors prised. I suggested they replace them with WW2 pill boxes.

Hi Keith. No I have not emigrated. We I have .... to here almost 6 years ago. The vandalism is so annoying. It's pointless, and cost a lot of money to put right. I knew about Brockholes but this is the first time I have seen pictures of the place. Phew, what a lot of money all those buildings must have cost. Where did all the cash come from in these times of hardship. Maybe an EU grant perhaps. Back to work now as this is just a shady break from my washing gutters and fascia job. Lunch when I finish in about an hour. Cheers. Trev..

I fail to see what the yobs get out of vandalism - I can only think that they have no pride in themselves or anything they do. The reserve is quite a way from any houses, the nearest being in Salmesbury or the outskirts of Preston so they must have to travel there, probably by car. My only hope is that while one lot are vandalising the reserve, another lot are vandalising their car.
Our gang are out shopping so expect them back when I see the white's of their eyes. Lunch sounds like a good idea but I need to tap a keyboard for a while yet.
