Work has now started on converting the Elms Hotel into luxury apartments. This is a view from 2009 And on the 2nd of January 2012, it looks like this. I only went in here once and that was to a works Christmas party. Perhaps someone more familiar with the interior layout could tell us what the, now demolished, single storey parts contained. I know this end was the ballroom as we had the party in there. Strange how they have left the curtains in place. It looks to me like the main building is staying up, anyone know any different? I don't think it was ever very pretty round the back

I thought they were bulldozing the lot and stating again, it would appear not. I will have to make a point of walking past there on a regular basis.

I very rarely leave home without it. On the odd occasion I leave it at home I see something memorable. Since Christmas I have seen Elvis, Lord Lucan, A politician telling the truth and a Dodo eating barnacles OK, I lied about the politician

Do you mean you lied about the politician, or that the politician lied. Trev..

The first I knew about the demolition was when we walked past the other day. If there is scrap in there, they should have got to gypsies to clear it out, they might have brought the rest of it down too.
If they are demolishing it all, why have they carefully removed the single storey bits only?

It looks like they are utilising some of the old building. But I could not find the drawings on the planning website.

Ha ha, no rooms at the Inn. The futher back you go in the reviews the better it is. I have only been there to funeral lunches, and it seemed a little old fashioned.

Hmm this sounds a bit worrying:
A bit like deja vu all over again.

The Elms has been in this state for quite a while. It's strange looking through a hole in the wall to the stage with the curtain still hanging and the bar at the far end. Last time I was there it was my step-daughter's prom evening. I knew the Visitor photographer and he took me with him when he organised the group photo to grab some of my own photos of them all on the lawn.

Been very busy lately and have not been doing as much walking as I should. There is a nice fence around, which has a convenient hole for taking photos through, but very little in the way of progress on the appartments. I must remember to take my monopod next time, so I can get a bit higher. Anyway, I had a trip to Bare and took the opportunity to snap the progress at The Elms site. Blimey guv'nor, it's nearly all gone now. The fence is very sturdy but I wounder why they think that bright green blends into the background. Perhaps it falls under the same planning laws as Yorkshire, where a farmer was told that the only way he could site a caravan in a certain field, was if the caravan was green. Not easy to spot, it is to the left of the buildings.
