Is it an invasion of privacy..........or can it be a useful tool to be used in an emergency or to contact lost friends/family?
It had to happen, a directory for mobile phones. I can think of many occasions when I would have liked to obtain a friends number and often had to resort to phoning a friend of a friend of the friend just to obtain the number
So do you think THIS is a good idea or not?

NO! I get enough phone calls from people trying to sell me stuff - If I need to be contacted, the relevant people already have my number and would not mind passing it onin an emergency. Sometimes, we are just too contactable!

I too would not want my mobile phone number on any directory. As there is probably no address to go with the umber, I wonder how they differentiate between the different 'John Browns' Trev..

I have had to leave this job for a while because of more pressing matters but it is coming together. It has had 2 coats of varnish and a good rub down and the big piece of glass is now in place in the show cabinet. The glass is filthy but it is not time to clean it yet. The softwood is not going as dark as I would like so I might mix some dark oil paint with some varnish. Not sure whether to paint or varnish the doors. There is some more glass to go in the other side but it is easier leaving them out for now. The internal racking is made out of acrylic bar and is all finished but will be one of the last things to go in. The cabinet is for Mrs Keef's collection of miniature shoes so it seemed like a good idea to make some door handles in the form of shoes.

Hmmm Its coming along Keith. The idea of a display cabinet is a good one, as are the handles considering what is to be displayed. I also like the clown picture an the wall, it looks good.
In Cyprus there is a well known saying... 'Siga Siga' Which means... Slowly slowly.
But it looks to be a good idea well on the way to fruition.
Regards. Trev..

A little more sealant and..............it would make a sensational goldfish cabinet if Mrs Keef changes her mind about putting her shoes there

How did we get from mobile phone directories to fish tanks - and NO! we are not having any pirhanas! Back to the plot - how is this mobile phone directory idea ever going to work? We've already thought of one obvious problem, the lack of addresses so you have no way of differentiating between people with the same name. Then there are also all the people who have pay as you go SIM cards who are simply not registered by name, plus people like me who pay a monthly contract by DD for my daughter so although it's her phone it is actually registered in my name and nobody would ever be able to find her. It's just a silly pointless idea with too many pitfalls. I already get fed up of the wrong numbers we get on the house phone - can you imagine the hassle with people ringing your mobile thinking you are someone else? For people who drive for a living like coachman that could be a nightmare.

Back on the wander for a mo - Keith have you tried some of that woodstain to darken your new wood? I've used an antique pine one on new wood and it brings the colour down quite nicely. It would mean sanding the varnish off again though. Nice to see the actual construction you were describing because I had been trying to imagine it.
That carpet by the way - we've got the brown version! ;D

I rubbed some brown oil paint into the wood before varnishing and it matches quite well. The whole lot needs at least another coat of varnish and that will be done sometime this week. There is some more new wood on the other side which looks good as it is. It will look better when it gets the white trim on. The white is undercoat and will be grey gloss. The top is still plain MDF, the other side is painted but the top is still bare. The carpet will be dark blue, we are getting a new one not painting the old one ;D We spent yesterday taking photographs of some of the shoes and making the background for the cabinet. It is a 5ft. by 3ft. image and a bit too big for the printer. Here are a few of my favorite shoes, the first one is just over 2 inches high. Rugged Lone Wolf Roller

This thread seems to have become a DIY thread but that is the way of these things. The job is still going on of course and has been much more than a cosmetic decorating job but we are now at the decorating stage and the end is in sight. The wiring in the house was done by Bodgit and Blewitt before we came in so some major changes have been necessary. Things like joining the ground floor ring main to the consumer unit at both ends rather than just one. The master telephone socket was in the hallway and the broadband splitter upstairs in the office but the wiring is all hidden now. There is some more wiring to do in the living room but that is in the near future. The wall in the hallway looked worse when I had finished than before I started. But with the help of Mrs Keef (Super Paster) the lining paper has covered up the evidence. The rest of the weekend was spent filling sanding, undercoating and keeping curious fingers off the wet bits. I am hoping to have the gloss paint done this weekend.
